CB350/400 / oil filter cover bolt
« on: October 25, 2018, 04:17:48 PM »
Hi.
I've removed the oil filter cover to replace the oil filter. As you do!! The bolt I notice has a spring and piston mechanism within. How can I check this is functioning properly. Why do I want to know this Imhear you all say in unison! Well the bike came with a bolt on oil cooler. Reason not known but previous owner doesn't know why as these bikes did not have a reputation for overheating he said. I removed this at the same time as it looks bog ugly.
Is it possible that this bolt mechanism was not working and that is why someone added the oil cooler?
That it why I want to find out if the parts work before I refit  the filter and top up oil etc.

CB350/400 / fuel tank free
« on: September 30, 2018, 05:22:00 PM »
I've got a honda 400-4 fuel tank. I have stripped it and it has a few dents as you can see filled. I have bought a new one in primer so I don't need this one. Free to anyone who wants it. Doesn't leak . I have derusted the inside but as expected there is a slight film returned.

CB350/400 / chrome wheels
« on: September 28, 2018, 06:18:26 PM »
Hi all esp Matron.
My wheels are black   Should I get them dipped and stripped or should I assume that they were blackened as the chrome underneath was rusty.

CB350/400 / cam cover and camshaft seats.
« on: September 22, 2018, 11:23:59 AM »
Good morning everyone. Anyone got anything happy to say about my cam shaft and cover.
After removing the cam cover for a spruce up by a pro I noticed 1 of the bolt holes had spilt. As these keep the cam cover firmly over the centre of the camshaft I felt this was not a great idea. I showed it to my pro and he got his pro to give an option. He noticed some excess wear on both end cam  shaft seats. Middles seemed okay.  I acquired a second hand cover just in case and we compared them together. The replacement cover had almost pristine seat surfaces.

There is some wear on the cam shaft surfaces in the same places as the cover was worn. No surprise.

Big question. Do I need a replacement shaft. Do I need to remove shaft to inspect cylinder head elements.
Any other suggestions. EG do I need a remortgage

Hi all.

In particular Sister Julie.

Am acquaintance of mine said that on a regular basis spray the block with wd 40 to help clear any dirt.  Is this advisable

CB350/400 / cam cover seal
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:04:58 AM »
Hi. I'm about to replace my cam cover with a new part. How do you keep the flexible seal in the grooved on the cover when you invert it? It is supposed to be a dry seal I am told.

CB350/400 / airbox
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:05:41 PM »
Why won't my air box fit against the carb intakes without a headache. Have they become hard or has the box become soft and bends when I try to fit them?

Would a new one solve the problem??

CB350/400 / carburettor overhaul and seized screws
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:55:44 AM »
Hi. I'm overhauling the carbs on my 400-4 . I've got as far as removing the carb pistons to replace the needles. I can't unscrew the 2 small screws at the bottom of each cylinder. I've soaked overnight in wd 40 to no avail. Any other suggestions please. I don't want to buy new ones as they are so expensive. If push comes to shove I can continue to use the existing jets but I'd rather know that they were all new.
