Hi all,
A while since I’ve posted... all bikes safely now in Oz and bloody amazingly undamaged. Cost a fortune... still not through... now need QLD Compliance certificates / thence roadworthy checks blah blah. The things we do for love eh?
ANYWAYS. My wee SS50 kick starter shaft / Kickstarter are splinelees buggers, and recently given up playing together ... and of course those parts now n/a.
(1) anyone got a spare / good condition kick starter for a ‘77 5 Speed SS50 please? (I can actually source a suitable ‘shaft)
...or
(2) tips / tricks for fettling the problem... any mileage in attempting to drill a 3mm hole down the mating circumferences and inserting a peg?
Ta muchly,
Lobo
PS - if anyone can help with a kick starter it’ll be a UK address!

Did do the drill between the two a few times many years ago on Yamaha's FS1E's, can't see any reason it wouldn't work for your SS50. I think we used to get away with tapping it to M6, solely because we had loads of M6 taps and bolts around, can't see why 3 or 4mm wouldn't work just as well.

...thanks Hairy - fettled using your experience, thanks. Drilled a 3mm hole betwixt the two, then (because the drill was now blunt!) snapped it to the correct length and used it as a kinda Woodruff. Not esp elegant, but functional, almost invisible, and saved the day.

Nice one! Are you in Oz permanently now? I know people in Queensland, it's a very nice place from what I've heard, not too hot, and property still reasonably priced.

... yea, as of 2 months ago retired here, midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Early days but feel it’ll be a good decision... property indeed reasonably priced away from the city.
Think the bikes will happy... 😁x5
Have met a local with a Ruby Red K1 750; a few rides out now planned - a lot of catching up to do after 24 years in Brunei with only short visits home to Hampshire.
