CB750 / Service Bulletin No.15
« on: November 09, 2014, 09:09:13 PM »
Read this SB no. 15 and it highlights the ludicrous  obsession to detail some people have. Those 'No.28' carb.  caps are one of the 'Holy grail' items for CB750 Sandcast owners but were the subject of a safety recall in 1970.

You can image the same types  in 25 years time looking for original front mats for a Toyota. You know, the ones that can jam under the pedals  ::)

Cheers ......  AshD

Misc / Open / Previous keeper definition
« on: November 08, 2014, 08:56:16 AM »
After all of the recent 'silly banter' from me  a proper serious post.

I bought my 750K0 off a guy from York, who gave me the original used 'bill of sale' dated from 1975 from Mick Buttfield M/C in York, when he bought it used. He told me that he knew that the PO to him was a guy in Scarborough who ran a pub. So  that makes me at least the third owner. However, looking at the the V5 in my name, last night, it states 'Number of former keepers 1'.
So when we buy a vehicle do we believe the DLVA to be correct on the number of PO's ?  Or am I understanding the definition wrongly of 'Former keepers'. Is it the number before the person you bought it off or inclusive of them owning it? At least it gives me a good reason to apply for historic data from the DVLA if it is indeed wrong.

Cheers ..Ash

CB750 / CB750K0 Chain protector P/N 11353-300-010
« on: November 07, 2014, 09:12:56 PM »
Rich (RGP750) asked me about the CB750 chain protector I have fitted to my K0 (Fitted when I bought it)

Well it's Honda P/N (NLA) 11353-300-010

It is supposed to stop a broken chain smashing the crankcases but not sure how successful it was:

and it looks like this:-

Other Bikes / US version sloper
« on: November 05, 2014, 08:12:55 AM »
Never seen one of these 'slopers'  before. It has the normally blanked off starter fitted !! (probably a 6v starter like CB92)

Wonder if one like this as a USA import could be converted into UK spec?

I only looked at it because I thought it was the usual eBay scam , wrongly calling  a later tubed frame bike a 'sloper' to get a better price but hey-ho I was wrong.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ebaymotors/HONDA-CD175-SLOPER-/201139100598?orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2557&nma=true&si=4O9nb+znHdrf0FHyeXcE9hLwUPY=&forcev4exp=true#ht_2266wt_1163

As you can probably  gather .. one of these days I will have one of those bikes for my collection. But as the old Honda sage I met at Stafford who agreed with my philosophy said . "If you want to restore a rare bike then get hold of a decent set of exhausts first as a starting point". That's what I did with my 250K0  :D  !

Back in the day I had a sloper and a CB160 at the same time (much preferred the 'sloper) . The 160 came with a spare motor that had 'thrown a rod' and other parts so I fitted the alternator, rectifier, starter etc to the 175  but converted it back when I sold it.

Cheers ...Ash

CB350/400 / Would this fit 400/4?
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:56:30 PM »
Have to thank Bitsa really for this but would this 'rare'  sprocket ring if stripped and Zinc plated fit a 400/4?

I have one on my 400/4 BTW so this is really for others to look at.

Misc / Open / Why this forum is so much better than some of the 'others'
« on: November 03, 2014, 08:14:09 AM »
Got this response on SOOC re Yamiya Seats to one of my posts:  (they Don't do banter BTW Trig).

Quote from: CBman on October 31, 2014, 03:09:58 PM
"I totally understand Honda UK. Yamiya is para-siting on Honda engineers and brand. It is not legal to use Honda logo on their products.
I´m sure you will be also not happy if anybody else will use brand logo of your own company and will copy your products, or yes....?
Yamiya could be happy to not been producing Apple replicas. If so, top management will be just in prison, because Apple will not allow it."

Yes but if that's the case it should be a Honda WORLDWIDE ban not just us poor souls in Europe. Mr Honda would turn in his grave that we cannot get hold of the correct parts for our bikes. Copying is a sincere form of flattery BTW

Dear coastpath500,

Funny because the one I bought from you only yesterday said this:-

"my last seat 4 sold already - there will be no more (from me
anyway)"

Cheers anyway.. If you let us know on SOHC.co.uk we could point
you to more sales

Hi

I sell these (and everything else I list) without even seeing the stock – they are shipped from Holland(I list in Wales) – I was told we had 5 left (you bought the 5th) the warehouse guys tell me now that there were 6 in total – so I am sorry for the misleading and untrue sentence, it was written in good faith.
The one now is definitely the last one – but after my previous experience I won’t be stating that on the listing – just in case they unearth another!
They are though, gorgeous seats – I don’t think you will be disappointed. Everything I sell goes through the Ebay system – mainly because we have a good system that rarely goes wrong. I store and ship from Holland because the costs of both storage and shipping are very much less than the U.K.
Thank you for your custom. I have some more CB750 mufflers K0-K6 coming on Ebay shortly – you may wish to alert your friends and associates in SOHC?

Trawling eBay as I do for CB250/350 K0 parts, decided to look at eBay France for the first time ever. Next to nothing for sale of any rarity. What the hell were those Froggies riding round on in the 60's and 70's. ::) ::)

Bitsa ... my heart goes out to you mate!

Misc / Open / Questions for David Silver
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:35:01 PM »
I did agree a few weeks back to get together a list of questions from us collectively, to ask DS directly (as he requested when he joined us on here early this year). Been away so not done it yet, remiss of me I know but everyone please remind me about the questions we have:-

He is now in the final stages of getting CB72 / 77 pipes re-manufactured BTW, which he displayed at Stafford.

From what I remember:-

1) Progress on replica HM341 and 500/4 pipes
2) Bad bonding  / fit of pattern brake shoes.
3) Reminder about problem with aftermarket 750K0 fork stanchions
4) Fit of 400/4 replica pipes.
5) Supply of Yamiya seats/covers  (already addressed).

Cheers ... AshD

Anyone know of any interesting results from Bonhams auctions yesterday? Last time I went to Stafford a very posh lady told me I needed to buy a very expensive catalogue in order to even view the auction.

Cheers ... Ash
