Misc / Open / Castle Chroming ... have stand at STAFFORD
« on: October 19, 2014, 09:44:53 AM »
These people were at Stafford on Saturday and had rechromed parts on display that looked really nice. Was talking to I fellow CB250 resto guy and he said he had used them and another guy I know looked at the parts and said they looked good, if a little bit 'blingy'.

The person on the stand quoted me 80 GBP for a rim, which sounded OK to me.

Just got back from Stafford thinking to myself why do I bother travelling 120 miles then queuing for the best part of an hour to get in. Then I  walked past this stand, not far from DSS stand,  with a few odd  bits and pieces including an elusive NOS 18 x1.60 rim for my 250K0, at only 35 GBP but a Tagasako not DID.. which was a real shame . Asked the guy on the stand if he had a DID one expecting the usual 'no mate' reply but he said yes, I suppose you want one without the side script on it  and just the little diamond pressing between the spokes !! ... Turns out he has a NOS one and sold it to me for 60GBP, which is a real bargain. Got talking to him and turns out he's from York and knows quite a few of my old Uni biker mates from York, which is not too far from me. He once owned the 1st original UK K0 bike but is building himself another one from all of the NOS parts he has massed together  including a UK unregistered but stamped  NOS frame from the first batch of 20 UK bikes (Oct '69 build). Turns out he bought the entire stock of a major dealer in the North, when the new owners decided to stop keeping spares. The dealer had evidently 'parted out' a brand new K0 straight out of the crate in 1970 because Honda had imported the bikes to the UK but there was not yet a reliable supply of spare parts set-up. I did once hear that a K0 had been parted out straight out of the crate and the engine went into a side car outfit.

Anyone else go to Stafford?

Saw a nice Candy  Antares Red 400/4 F2 for 5k and a grey sloper CD175A (complete with standard pipes J reg- but a bit rough) for nearly 2k. Wow those 'slopers are commanding real money now!

Never seen a CB250K0 at any show, getting very rare now.

Misc / Open / Tickets for Stafford still discounted
« on: October 16, 2014, 04:38:54 PM »
Bought my ticket for Saturday. Missed the online discount but if you call them they will still give you entry for 10GBP but you collect ticket at the gate.

Bought some  bits off DSS to be collected at the show. Think he is doing 1 GBP postal delivery for show orders.
Can't believe that a genuine 750K0 throttle twistgrip sleeve is only 75p still. No logic to Honda's pricing.

CB750 / Threads... 750 crankcase studs
« on: October 14, 2014, 08:19:53 AM »
Need to revisit this . My CB750K0 crankcases had a broken off stud. It was one of the short ones at the front and the threaded hole was slightly recessed from the sealing face of the 'cases. I tried every method mentioned on all of the forums including  welding  a nut onto the old thread and get it really hot to enable removal, due to the heat and purchase achieved on the new nut head. However, because it broke off low down, it was difficult to weld and I only had a  MIG not a TIG welder, so that method was not successful. What I then did was to get a set of scrap barrels and located them onto the crankcase using the 'knock pins' to accurately  locate the barrels onto the crankcase. Then I got a piece of SS tube which was a tightish fit in the barrel stud hole and got a long series drill which was a good fit on the ID of the tube and drilled a pilot hole  into the remains of the stud. This worked really well as the drill was fully guided and the hole was pretty concentric on the remaining stud. Then I was 'out of sorts' for 18 months so the job was abandoned. I read at the time that Honda used specially tapered machine taps for the holes. Does anyone know about this. My mate suggested that I drill my 'pilot' hole out to the stud thread  tapping size and then I may be able to pick out the old threads. Or should I just go for running a tap down the hole and Loctiting the stud in? Or is there a special tap available?

Misc / Open / Hope this is not a trend
« on: October 03, 2014, 09:50:07 AM »
Contacted Member UKROBK7 (CB750K7 restorer) , who was a regular on here a while back  and I helped out with some little parts from my 'scrapper' and also Jock 'BobTheBuilder' who was restoring a UK 750K0 he got as a project off eBay. Both of them sold their bikes once restored, as the bikes were too big /scary for today's roads/wifey pressure. Bob bought a 'sloper' CD175 last time I contacted him and Rob told me yesterday he bought a kit car. Hope this is not a trend !!

Would love to own a sloper myself again  some day as I have fond memories of mine (metallic grey) but I wouldn't entertain it unless I found some NOS pipes first, which isn't going to happen I don't think.

Misc / Open / Honda Blocking Saisei from stocking seats /covers
« on: September 29, 2014, 05:09:46 PM »
Got an email / PM from David at Saisei-Europe  saying he can't order us any Yamiya /PMC seats because Honda UK have contacted him telling him he can't sell anything with the HONDA logo on (as was the case with David Silver).  Bad for me but I really feel for the two 'David's' .

I have asked him to ask Yamiya/PMC if they can produce us a batch of seats/covers without the logo on.

Meanwhile I will contact Honda UK asking why they allow other countries to stock them but deny us Brits the right to purchase. Pretty sure it will fall on deaf ears but worth a try anyway. I have an article from the 90's  which stated that even after the 15 year parts cut-off, Honda  would make available the info to have parts made. Their excuse on the seat last time I contacted them was that a '300' middle number part was still available and the K0 seat was a superseded part. This was true as the K1 seat did indeed have a 300 middle number and fitted OK but that too has been discontinued, so they can't use that on me anymore.

GRrrr...   >:(   Will I ever get that K0 finished.

So what happened to this promise below

Misc / Open / Freeing a weather seized engine
« on: September 25, 2014, 08:47:55 AM »
When I finally pick up the CB350K1 US import I recently bought from DK I need to free up the 'seized from standing' engine. Any tips for what to put down the bores guys, as I would suspect piston rings corroded onto the bores. I read Marvel Mystery Oil somewhere I believe or was it Kroll or something sounding like that. Will be totally stripping the motor anyway.
