CB500/550 / CB550K3 Seat Foam
« on: September 03, 2018, 07:49:01 PM »
Hi

I have bought a new seat cover for my K3, but looking at the current seat I think the foam at the back of the seat is a slightly different shape. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new seat foam from, I can't find one online?

Many thanks
Dave

Hi

That price included some small repairs, a primer coat, 2 coats of black, applying the decals (which I bought) and then 2 coats of varnish.

Hi, I got my tank back from the sprayers yesterday, it looks stunning, I need to put the chrome trim on and then sort out the Honda logos.

It was done by Steve Mills at MD Autos in Tewkesbury Glos, and the cost was very reasonable.

Hi

I might be being a bit stupid here but what exactly is the problem with this bike besides the ridiculous starting price.
PM me if you don't want to get done for bad mouthing somebody.

Thanks

CB500/550 / Colour code for Honda Excel Black paint
« on: June 22, 2018, 11:21:03 AM »
Hi

Does any know the colour code or part number for the Excel black paint used on CB550k3's?
I am getting some work done in a couple of weeks and I want the guy to use the correct shade of black, he is going to try and find the colour mix code, and I said I would try and find it also.

Many thanks

Hi Bryan

If these are pd46's for a 550k I would be interested in taking them off you hands.

Hi

That is what I would like to do, I cannot find one for sale that has the right size nut/thread with a single side outlet,
If anyone has one or knows where I can purchase one, I would be grateful.

Many thanks
Dave

What is it? / Trying to identify the model of bike for this tank
« on: April 21, 2018, 10:06:20 PM »
Hi

I have a CB550K3, a while ago BryanJ gave me another tank which to all intents and purposes looks like a K3 tank, and fits on the bike well.
However the petrol tap has two outlets and these are vertical from the bottom of the petcock, the problem is that my carbs only have one petrol inlet and the vertical distance between the bottom of the petcock outlet and the top of the carb inlet is very small, and with the backing plate that holds the four carbs together in the way I'm fairly certain the fuel isn't flowing properly because I can't get a smooth bend in the fuel pipe.

The original K3 petcock has one outlet which comes out horizontally.

I want to get a 'K3' type petcock for the new tank but the I really need to identify the type of bike the tank came off (Bryan is unsure). The K3 petcock  is a different thread size to the one on the new tank, the new one is has a 24mm nut, I measured the thread and it is 19mm, I assume this is 18mm + 1mm thread depth.

Anyway attached are a couple of photo's of the new tank and its petrol cap which may help to identify which model of bike it was originally fitted to.

Many thanks
Dave

CB500/550 / Re: CB 550k3 Throttle problems
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:20:05 PM »
The bike has only done about 200 miles since I got it back on the road, one of the jobs I did was renew all the carb jets. However over the winter I  had to have the cylinder head gaskets replaced and whilst this was being done the mechanic noticed an oily type film in the carb bowls, he thinks it was sort of residue coming from the original tank I had on it. He cleaned the carbs out, so hopefully it isn't partially blocked press in jets, and I have since put a different tank on the bike.

CB500/550 / CB 550k3 Throttle problems
« on: April 19, 2018, 08:40:02 PM »
Hi

Now I'm riding the bike a bit more now the weathers better I have noticed that around 4000 rpm, in any gear, it feels like I'm getting fuel starvation. If I open the throttle a bit more it seems to overcome this and carries on revving.
I have checked the fuel line isn't kinked etc, (I have a fuel filter in line).
I thought I'd read a similar post on here some time ago, but I can't find it.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks
Dave
