Title: CD175 Sloper centre stand spring
Post by: Orcade-Ian on February 22, 2024, 03:03:50 PM
Hi folks,
Finished the stand pivot - many thanks Ash for the detailed drawing.  Have a new centre stand spring from DS and can clearly see the attachment lug on the stand (which could be the wrong one anyway!) but can't see the normal curled pin to attach the other end via the half moon plate to attach the frame end of the spring.  Hope it's not been snapped off/ground off as the paintwork is nice under there.  Anyone got a shot of how it attaches?

On my 400 the other end of the spring attaches to a boomerang shaped metal arm the other end of the arm has a hole in it where it pivots I can't remember on what.

Mine too on the 350 and 400 Ted but the curved plate on those bikes attaches to a curled 'tail' welded to the frame but no such piece on this frame or any evidence of one having been snapped or ground off.  I fear the worst!  I'm certainly not up for welding one back on upside down on a virtually complete bike with a well painted frame!  He'll have to get some other mug to do that.

Oh dear - someone here will know - I share your angst that there might be a missing lug.

It definitely attaches to a peg on the frame, the moon plate should have a type of key slot to stop it coming off and the peg has a slot on it.
I will see if I have any pictures.

Unfortunately the 'hook' is a 205 CB92 part which normally equates to inflated £££

Many thanks Ash and Paul G for the info,
All is not lost it seems, I can easily drill the frame at that point and make a peg with a collar on the outside and a nut and washer on the easily accessible inside.  Now I know where it attaches I might even see the head of the original pin on the inside.  Ted, the plate on the pivot pin just stops the shaft revolving and rests at the 9 o'clock position.

The pictures of mine on the end is before it was welded in place.

Ash,
Did you send Ian the drawing you did for me as it was spot on  ;D

Hi Paul,
Yes, I got the drawing from Ash and it's spot on as you say.  A nice little turning job and I silver soldered the plate on instead of welding and then finished with BZP.  We don't have the curved plate either (unobtainium too) I have others from other bikes (GB500 for one) so will experiment till it's right.
Thanks again for the info,
Ian

Wow Ash,
A mind reader too!  Is there no end to this man's talents?  I've massaged - oops, I mean messaged (bloody spell check - my case comes up next week) Paul G asking for that info.  My GB 500 one is pretty close to those dimensions, so I think the lug on the dubious stand is too far away to stretch the OE spring.  Using your drawing and some calculated guesswork, I can make something of it.
Thanks again,
Ian
