I missed it first time as you have to scroll down on the inside bar not the usual outside one!

Be careful what you wish for. The questions about substantially altered from the original condition could mean anyone who's done a cafe racer for example could find they are no longer classified as historic. How far from the OE condition does it have to be? needs an original exhaust for example, giving them info like this could come back to bite you.

Ken, have you a copy of dvla exemption categories that covers, in section r, what is defined/changeable under UK current historic vehicle statement?
It's useful to look through as there's nothing about styling,  cafè or any other, defined. More the original main components along with ability to substitute new design for no longer available items.
Definitely needs to be read from a view of dispassionate disconnected stance to see what it allows in simple facts rather than our own knowledgeable position in defining our own bikes.

As example in the way I read it you could use 500/550/650 honda engines in your bike of choice (Honda 500 four) and all still qualifying for historic status. This the same as for example some Land Rover models that could have originally a 4/6/8 cylinder engine of diesel or petrol in the same vehicle.

Not read them no K2, I was reading the definition as stated in that survey, that's what concerned me. Ok, we are no longer in Europe but our politicians are known for using other countries ideas as a basis to change our definitions, so they look at that and think, mmm we could use that and reduce the numbers of historic vehicles not paying tax on our roads by 30% at a stroke. What's more they can't blame us, they altered them in the first place.

That's my worry. I'd be ok I reckon, mine is all Honda from that era and it would have to be a knowledgeable person to spot what's been changed and the Government as we know doesn't employ people with knowledge as they have to pay more.

They could get really picky though, if they chose, say Oh you've changed that bolt for a stainless one, sorry mate, that's not allowed.

Ok, I'm being really cynical but imagine 15 years ago and someone saying the Government would rob people of 10K a year just by changing the retirement age, we'd have said you're having a laugh mate, we'd never allow that to happen, it's 65 and will always be 65 cause that's what they told us when we first starting paying taxes.

Done. It might not make any difference,  but at least we can have our opinions heard.
