Other Bikes / Re: Metric Nuts & Bolts advice sought ?
« on: November 06, 2020, 10:02:18 AM »
Having grown up with the claim of "cheese" headed screws coming from Japan I realise that most of that came from not using JIS screwdrivers. However there was also a corrosion problem that even with the correct tool that the buggers wouldn't move. Fortunately I have a 1970's SnapOn impact driver that by sheer presence alone moves even the most stubborn fastener. I like allen head fasteners as they tend to come with their own torque wrench, unless of course you use a hex head on a socket driver. Apologies to those devoted to originality. ::)

I suspect we are all a bit guilty of being hoarders, especially with fasteners. I had a lifetimes collection but never seemed to be able to find the right one for the job so put the lot out for recycling and started off fresh with an organised selection. Guess what, I haven't needed one of them yet. Sods law?

Changing the seal but fortunately the piston looks OK. Lot of difference in prices being charged for 1L of brake fluid. ???

Thanks all. Yep there was a bit of crud behind the piston and the 2 holes were free. What was more surprising was that the bleed nipple needed quite a bit of persuading to move even though I had cleaned and copper sliped it last time. Now brake fluid, DOT4 or 5? Good point about the seal, I'll check that too.

I'm sure this is not a new problem but not one I've encountered before as my bikes are normally used regularly, but having a few problems this year the CB500 Four is not getting ridden and the front brake keeps sticking on. I've just taken it apart, cleaned up and copper slipped inside the calliper. I will change the brake fluid but is there any way I can stop this happening again?

Twas ever thus! For some reason many products are to be found cheaper in the USA, but when you take into account cost of shipping and duties it seldom makes the effort worth while.

Oh dear, he's given a squirrel a name. Inevitable I suppose that lock down has started to have some effects. :'(

In these times of hardship it just seems a pity to waste anything.

These cutesy wootsy US imports carry a virus to which they are immune but which has decimated the native red squirrel. They also cause a great deal of carnage among nesting birds by eating their eggs and young, plus as had been said, you wouldn't want them in your loft chomping their way through electrical circuits. Hard to really see an up side to them being introduced into the UK, so maybe the answer is to create a market amongst the trendy Hoxston Hipsters lot for free range squirrel burgers?  If only they could get Nigella Lawson to front it!:P

Still rather vulnerable to be hit to the covers with a sturdy Slazenger V12. Satisfying and a lot quieter! 8)

One of the very few creatures I prefer to see through a telescopic sight. Total vermin and nasty little bastards.

Who would be daft enough to ruin a perfectly good, useable bike?

I can remember the time when the term "cafe racer" was only used to register scorn and derision for those who were better at posing on bikes than actually riding them. The English language is a wonderfully accommodating and flexible thing!
