Interesting read Ash. The braking distances made me laugh,  the Honda stops from 60mph 50 feet,  yep fifty!  ;D shorter than the Triumph.

Comerfords,  my father bought a Vincent from there, still have the receipt.

Yeah - particularly how many combinations there was for sale - illustrates how biking (or should I say 'motorcycling') has changed from everyday transport to leisure

Comerfords,  my father bought a Vincent from there, still have the receipt.

The only time that i have stopped in that distance at that speed is, when someone has pulled out on me and i have ploughed in to them  :o

The reason I combined them is that if you read the Motor Cycle one you would have been 1st in the queue to buy one but reading the MCM one you may have been rather put off. Considering there was no internet etc. your average rider would have heavily swayed by what they had to say in those reviews. Was the reviewer David Dixon the same as the Dixon Racing chappie?

The MCM test there was so stilted as to be laughable now. The truth was that in the real world that bike was the first nail in a very quickly buried coffin as far as the British motorcycle industry was concerned and rightly so. Pretty much the same as having the Norton Commando bike of the year time and time again despite far FAR superior bikes being available. A lot of those old publications were far more set in their ways than even the British bike industry was but the British biking public voted with their feet in a growing tidal wave of real world common sense.

The first review I hadn’t seen before, very thorough but you get the impression they only say nice things so they continue to get free press bikes to test.

The use of ‘non cling rubber’ for the tyres made me laugh, and quickly glossed over, despite trying to chuck the tester up the road when it rained. I took the CL450s possibly original Japanese Dunlop rear tyre to the tip, it proudly boasted being made with rayon! Only later did it occur to me that some originality buff, with no intention of riding on it, would probably have paid good money for that tyre.
