Title: Regulator Rectifier Replacement
Post by: paulbaker1954 on August 19, 2019, 08:49:55 AM
Am looking to replace the original units(s) with modern kit.

I am sure this question has been asked many times so apologies for any repeat !!

I seem to remember someone posting about a unit that just plugged straight in to the existing connector

I found this on a USA site but cant find an equivalent in UK

https://4into1.com/regulator-rectifier-honda-cb350f-cb400f-cb500-cb550-cb750/ (https://4into1.com/regulator-rectifier-honda-cb350f-cb400f-cb500-cb550-cb750/)

There are lots on fleabay and seem to vary a lot in price but this seems OK

ALso Wemoto have a what seems to be same unit but much pricier

https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/cb_500_four_k0/71/picture/regulator_rectifier_-_by_electrex (https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/cb_500_four_k0/71/picture/regulator_rectifier_-_by_electrex)

I am assuming with these units connection as follows

In the existing 5 way connector:_The yellow wires connect to the existing 3 field coil yellow wires and the green (earth) and red (battery feed) to exisiing green and red

The remaining white and black leads are then the field coil connections that go where the existing regulator plugs in. I assume the green existing earth wire from the existing regulator is simply not needed

Electrex are the best units available. Don't buy the cheap Chinese shite, they are very hit and miss. Mostly miss! You get what you pay for.

Whatever you buy if it doesnt come with full wiring diagram/instalation instructions send it back as not complete. A fraction of a second of incorrect connection wrecks them!

Paul I got one from wemoto too just few days ago (Electrex)
Did not install it yet, but connection is very easy. Just remove old rectifier unit and regulator, connect new regulator into big connector from alternator and 2 more wires as in instruction sheet attached in package.

The "biggest problem" is to decide how to fix it into bike, case is hestsink, so will be hot during operation - take into consideration. Positions of holes does not fit old unit holes.
I tried to find good place in my K7 750, will need to fabricate some metallic plate-adaptor. Did not study yet on 550.

Thanks very helpful
Did yours come with correct connector already wired?

I fitted the electrex world one to my 500. Dead simple, just plug in but you do end up with an unused green wire form the old regulator. I made an aluminium plate for mine and mounted it in the same position as in the picture.

This is what I did, modified the mounting plate with the reg/rectifier mounted flat to it with a new style fuse box above.

Works a treat and doesn't get warm, and the side cover still fits.

Is it me Sye or is your oil pressure wire (blue/red) spade connector not fully into the connector block.
Checked it and it's fully engaged. Probably just the outer insulator grip showing?
