Title: alternator wires covering
Post by: billdn on November 12, 2021, 02:45:03 PM: I suspected a damaged wire and slit this covering open, but thankfully no damage, but how to replace/make good - I suspect it gets hot hence the woven type sleeve so 2 questions :-
a) cover with heat shrink - don't think its suitable tbh.
b) Vehicle wiring products do similar on their site , use that?
c) insulation tape- only kidding!

I know don't do that again but was only looking honest, the field core wires covering is also bit frayed so possibly change that also.

Just a thought and a bit of a guess but it seems to be good stuff and used in numerous applications........

What size did you use Deano?

Can't remember what I bought but measuring what I have in the garage it appears to be 6mm and 8mm dia. I used it on a 400/4, the 6mm for the two wires from the points and the 8mm for the 3 wires on the alternator side. I used a bit of tape on the ends to secure the the sleeving and than covered the tape with black heat shrink to finish it off.
