When I did my American imported 750 last year, I just used the dating Cert from VJMC and didn't need the additional letter from Honda

Motobatt batteries are a pain in the arse. I have had a couple replaced under warranty on my Fireblade.

If they go flat they never seem to fully recover afterwards.

The only way to use one successfully is to have one connected to a trickle charger when not in use.

I’ve had a Silvers one on my 550 for the last year and a half, never had any problems with it.

This is what I did, modified the mounting plate with the reg/rectifier mounted flat to it with a new style fuse box above.

Works a treat and doesn't get warm, and the side cover still fits.

Definitely a hiss, like if you press your finger on a tyre valve.

But it will only do it if the bike has not been used for 3 weeks or so.

Right, you are all going to think this is my imagination and i'm going crazy but here goes:

74 CB550, has electronic ignition and a solid state regulator / rectifier all new. New bog standard lead acid battery.

Bike starts on the button, rides fine.

If I don't use it for say 2 to 3 weeks, when I put the key in the ignition and turn it on (just on, no attempt to start it), the bike makes a brief hiss then wont do it again.
Bike fires up perfectly, idles fine, rides fine.

The hiss noise will not come back for a least a couple of weeks if the bike is not used.

Hiss is nothing to do with the fuel tank, petrol tap is off when it happens.

Just wondered if there was some kind of valve in the battery maybe to release pressure?

It sounds like it comes from below the seat so i'm thinking battery. Battery is fine, holds a charge.

Please, no Snake comments  :P

I have a rebuilt 1980 RD350LC sitting at home with a completely buggered tank. Someone has put a liner in it at some point in its life and now bits are peeling off and clogging everything up.

Apparently Acetone is good a dissolving tank liners but im worried about what it may do to the paint.

My first attempt this week is to wash it out then fill it with a bit of water and a few nuts and bolts. Then completely wrap the tank in bubblewrap, foam etc and chuck it in my cement mixer for an hour.

One word about Caustic Soda and the like, never add water to it. Always add it to water.

You put your original working key in (step 14) and all your new keys after that will be programmed to the original working key.

Dont think there is a limit to how many times you can program keys, the only limit is you can have a maximum of 4 keys.

Once the programming sequence has started, you must program all your new keys one after the other.

I only had one original key for my bike, i bought another blank, got it cut then programmed this to match the original.

Then my mate who i bought the bike off found the spare key, gave it to me but this one now no longer works. The starter just spins and the bike wont fire.
If i want this one to work, ill have to start the process again and program the 3 together, one of the working ones and next working one and then the non working one.

I’ve just checked the registration from the pic in the first post, that’s not exempt either.
