I seem to have bought another bike. I bid the starting price, not thinking I'd have a chance and no one else wanted it. Not an SOHC or a 4 but it is a Honda.

Always found those interestng and like the look. Even with inboard discs etc.... Looks like some work with tank and other bits. Does it run? Interesting to see how you go on with it.

It runs but the tickover is erratic. Carbs need a clean I reckon.

Now that is quite interesting, and might make a nice custom, though ironically it's quite quirky and nice as it is. Good find.

What's the red line at?
Someone showed us a Ducati 860 ( at the Ace Café) balanced a 50 pence coin on edge on the fuel tank, then revved the knackers off it ;D all standing around thought it wouldn't stay there but it did. Demonstrates perfect primary and secondary engine balance of a 90 degree v-twin, a neat party trick.

That's a good find Mike, I always liked those but they were expensive when new. Not many left so be nice to see it kept standard.

It's a VT250F Julie. It's my day off work on Friday. I've asked the gaffer for a loan of the van, going to collect it from Torquay.

Very nice bike... they were / are quite popular down here... things to be careful of... blown head gaskets on the rear head from overheating (might not be such a big issue in the UK) and Syncing the carbies.. otherwise service as normal and enjoy.. :)

Smaller version of the VT500.
Rear head gasket problems due to over heating as, the front cylinder puts all its heat to the rear, cam chains x2 need replacing if around the 30,000 mile mark and hard to find one that has been regularly serviced ;)

If you want a really good coolant for it. Above gives spec etc but it's cheaper to buy 5 ltrs via somewhere like ama-zon to get enough to change whole system.
Good corrosion inhibitors and long life, it just works as it should in systems I look after of mixed alloy and other metals.

There's a few things to keep me busy on it.
Hydraulic clutch, just needs bleeding (I hope)
Front brakes are binding, needs stripping and servicing.
Rear indicator stems are broken. DSS has only got the one. I'll buy some cheap Chinese ones for now.
The last mot expired in 2008 so it's overdue for one. I'm not interested in doing a full restoration, just need it for work

I've received the rear indicator stems from America, wrong ones but I made them fit. While I had the back mudguard off I removed the grab handles and sprayed them with PJ1 and oven baked them. I then get carried away with the red Hammerite rattle can and improved the back of the frame.
While I was in red Hammerite mode I removed the detachable left down tube and cleaned the rust off with the angle grinder wire brush.
This is where it all goes pear shaped. This part of the frame carries coolant from the rad to the bottom of the engine. Around the engine mounting bracket, several holes appeared. I put out an APB for a replacement sub frame but, nothing. One guy suggested I look on Japanese version of ebay called Buyee.jp.
The good news is that I won one for ¥1549, which is about 12 quid. Just got to wait till it shows up.

My lovely Daughter moved from Basingstoke up here last year (just like her Dad.....a very smart Girl).
She bought a house from a Croatian couple which has a nice slate nameplate by the front door saying 'Vukojebina'.
It translates to 'Shithole'!
I smiled when I asked her if she wanted me to remove it......"No thanks, leave it.....I think it will be fine".

I love having Fridays off. Had a great day spannering. Nothing sheared off so didn't need the drill and taps.
Stripped and cleaned the clutch master cylinder. Sprayed it satin black, baked it in the oven. Refitted and bled the system. I've now got a super light clutch.
The subframe arrived from Japan yesterday, gave part of it a quick spray with the red Hammerite. Sprayed the side stand satin black.
Refitted the rad and fan that I had sprayed up.
Next job; have a look at the brake pads on the front (it's one of those ventilated discs) and the brake shoes.

I tackled the dreaded ventilated disc brake. With no real idea how it comes apart, I removed all the relevant screws. It wouldn't come apart so I consulted the man well. I decided that it just needed a bit of brute force. Decades of crud, brake dust and rust was overcome with gentle use of a crow bar. After eradicating the crud and rust, I reassembled it. Then I found a mysterious shim from somewhere so I had to dismantle the poxy thing again. By the time I need to replace the pads (which is soon because they're down to 2mm), I'll be an expert.

It took me many hours to remove the back wheel today. I got the nut off but no amount of flogging with a large hammer would budge it. I couldnt even get it to turn until the WD40 soaked in. I ended up hacksawing through the spindle and spacers on both sides. Then with the angle grinder, I got the remains of the spindle out. The collateral damage amounted to 1 spindle with spacers (available from ebay, second hand), 1 bearing (new from ebay)
and the seal, which I can pick up from Sealmasters tomorrow. There's plenty of wear left in the brake shoes so not all bad.

I've finally got it working. I just rode it around the estate for a mile or so. I need to get the horn working then I can get an MOT.

Thanks for that. I've only done 10 miles on it so I haven't got used to it yet. I've achieved my objective of getting it OTR before the shite autumn weather so I can keep the 400four clean and dry.

I was looking on fleabay for an exhaust.
£180 ish. The family budget won't go that far.
So I look on that wierd Japanese auction site where I got the sub frame.
Same thing, £180.
I put a bid on one that had a day to go. It was on £27. Next thing I know, I've won it for £27 😮.
Still got the P&P to pay for but I'm not in any rush so I'll pay less for surface mail.

Looks like I am picking up pone of these as well on the weekend... not in as nice condition though.
As long as it is rideable (safety check will prevail) I can put it on Historic Rego and get 60 days riding a year plus 2 Club Outings... will post some pics when I get it.

Well no pics... We agreed a fair price and a pick up day... I tried to contact him to arrange payment and a pick up time and late last night he sends me a txt saying he has sold it to somebody else... Meh.. wankers exist everywhere... more money to spend on the CB's anyway lol

I must admit I was pretty pissed at the time.. but at least it wasnt a SOHC I was dudded out of... :) That would have been much worse.

Some people will sell their soul for £50 or less unfortunately.
