It might be the CM250T Roo, that had a chrome rear guard, nice bike as well, BIL had one and loved it, keeps looking for another to replace it. CM400T would be better though.

If you're ever fitting a centre stand after having the frame powder coated for instance do it before you do anything else. With no swinging arm in place you can usually lift the stand up so much inside the frame that the spring will just clip on with no stretching at all, you just lower the stand and it's done, then fit the swinging arm after of course fitting the rear brake pivot pin beforehand.

The threaded bar method works just fine normally Ted.

Thanks Mick.

Looking at the manual on how to select bearing shells for Conrods, I've got:
2D, 2D, 2D, 3D
All shaft pin diameter are 34.99

I've plastigauged rod one between the cap and bearing and between bearing and pin. Both measured 0.038mm clearance.

I'm not sure where to go from here though as the manual has bearing selection based on the rod stampings and pin diametera. Can't find where in the manual the clearances come in to select the correct shell?

If I go by the manual, I need 6 brown and 2 greens.

Not sure where you've got that info from for bearing selection, there is no letter D in the bearing selection chart. Your crank markings look very clear, I can clearly see 1A on the rotor end crank webbing, the number 1 is for the crankshaft main journal, the letter A is for the conrod journal, so whatever number is printed on that conrod is what you need to check selection. The letter on the conrod is it's weight code, all the rods should have the same code so the crank is balanced.

Take a pic showing the crank markings and if possible the conrods showing the numbers printed on them, just to confirm the colour selection. Your shells look ok for re-use TBH, I'd just clean everything meticulously and refit them with some graphogen.

Spring looks new, has it been replated?

If not it's possible the spring is incorrect and fitted by the shop as a way of just getting it out of the door.

I'd remove it again, take a pic of it against a ruler and I'll see about comparing it with mine..

Spotted these on e-bay  aside from the postage I suspect Vietnamese Chrome might be of questionable quality.

The shop shows 550 ones as well.

TBH Ted the chrome looks ok but the standard of workmanship leaves something to be desired. Spot welds on all the braces, whereas the Honda OE guard is seam welded with small gaps. I'd imagine they'd rust very quickly as the braces are just water traps.

They do a proper 4 hole guard as well, must be available on it's own but maybe not listed yet.

Indicators are K3 or USA type, thick stems, large reflectors. Grab rail isn't an F2 as that has lugs underneath for the mounts and that would mean it couldn't sit against the floor like it is.

I've seen more than a few bikes dropped because of the rubber being fitted. You flick the stand down with your foot and if the bikes not upright eg leaning towards you, then the rubber hit first, stopped the stand from going any further down, you think it's down and lean the bike onto a stand that's only halfway down, if you don't notice it just falls over, usually onto your legs and then onto the floor if your not quick enough to catch it. Hence why I never thought of going in that direction.

Where are you looking Phil?

The rear guard is off a 550K3, so I'd imagine most of his other stuff will be too.

True. BUT, at least it's a pair and it could solve the problem and why oh why did Honda not make the filter seperate from the housing, that's just so stupid.

You'd think we so many different colours of paint on their site they'd have added a search function. Stupid.

I am in the process of doing something similar with the 500 side stand Lobo. The amount of times I set off with it down was unreal, first left hander and suddenly the bike just slews to the right, you brake hard whilst keeping upright and fishing for the stand with your foot, yep been there, done that.

So this time I thought I'd avoid that, I intend to fit a side stand sensor either wired so that if you select gear with it down it cuts the engine like on my CB1300 or failing that not being possible then using the indicator buzzer I still have fitted so that it goes off when the neutral light goes out and the stands still down. I think the rubber thing only really works when the side stand got repositioned by Honda further back, the 550 side stand has it for instance but they moved it from under the rotor area to near the footrests, it could be the angle the rubber hits the road that meant it needed to be relocated.

Not sure whether that was the same for the 750 as I just wasn't interested in studying them, sorry to say, never liked them so never bothered with them.

Got them all Bryan, still reckon they were vastly under rated. A fellow mechanic Dave, had the 400N and loved it. Funniest bloke I've ever worked with, had me in stiches every day, we were in a pub one day in the Isle of Man during TT and the we'd gone in because it advertised a comic was on, anyway the comic failed to turn up and the landlord comes on the little stage and asked if anyone could do some jokes to entertain us, of course Dave my mate was volunteered, we all knew he was funny but we didn't know just how funny he turned out to be. He stood up on that stage for 90 minutes just telling jokes, doing impersonations and playing the harmonica, he was gifted at all 3. At the start the pub was about 1/4 full, by the end if was PACKED, standing room only, drawn in by the howls of laughter coming out of the doors. He was so good the landlord asked him to come back the next day and do it again but he said he'd miss the racing and he was on holiday.

Just remembered this to show you what a nutter he was. We had half day on Wednesdays at QPM so we used to go to the pub me and Dave. This day we were in a strange pub with our wives, at 3pm the bell rings behind the bar for last orders, without saying a word and with no warning at all Dave jumps up and starts shadow boxing, dancing round the pub throwing punches in the air, his wife, who knew all his tricks goes up to the barman, who like all of us were just standing around dumbstruck by this strange bloke boxing thin air, she says with a perfectly straight face, "Please excuse my husband, he's an ex boxer and whenever he hears a bell he just jumps up and starts to box, ring the bell again and he'll stop" So the barman rings the bell again and Dave stops, looks around and just says "Where am I" I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

Believe it or not that's not the funniest story of Dave, it's just one I've remembered just now.

I have 3 or 4 I forget but they are all pretty much perfect, not worth sacrificing a good one IMO. Sure my BIL said a 250 dream one fitted on his, which is odd as I seem to recall it had a black plastic rear guard but he's adamant, might mean the model before the 250N which IIRC was called Super Dream. Always had a soft spot for the 250N, great to work on.
