Title: electronic tacho
Post by: captaindonutbikes on March 17, 2011, 02:35:11 PM
as the 650 gear seems to be next to non existent and i have the patience of a small child full of adhd and too much sugar i shall be going the electronic route.

now if i run a Z1000 clock will i have any issues ?

or i might go hightech and get a vapour clock.

any recomendations ?

cheers peeps

Have you looked at acewell products - they do combineh tacho / speedo units. Very neat. Just Google acewell  and their site comes as top listing.

How badly do you need 650 tacko gear and which bits do you need? I think I may have a few bits of 650 top end stuff and odds and ends left over from a job lot.....

Looking bleak, the tacho drive isn't home in a cylinder head like I thought. That leaves a slim chance of finding the things in a box in the other shed...... Will not be fast

well have a look but the way it seems to be is that i will eventually go digital for the clocks and idiot lights, saves a whole load of weight!

if you find it let me know,

cheers

Digital?, electronic?, surely this is the stuff of science fiction.  I would have thought the size of the thermionic valves alone required to make a rev counter work by electronics would render the whole thing about the size of a garden shed and therefore highly impractical!

"A cheap and simple speed indicator can be fashioned using a clothes peg, a piece of card and a rubber band.  Attach the peg/card to one of the control cables and set off.  If the card is deflected by the wind to an angle of forty five degrees, this indicates a 'moderate speed'.  Angles of sixty to ninety degrees indicate 'high speed' and 'dangerous speed' respectively." (extract from "Motorcycling for Gentlemen" 1911)

genius florence, again the the 'tweed logic' counters any form of realistic technological development and counters it with good honest gentlemanly codes of what is the acceptable face of motorcycling  ;)

i doth my cap in shame but may on the other hand fit this for the period look:

love the look of this but doubt it would add anything to front end stabilty ;D

Problem with using a car digital is it won't read accurate as, assuming a 4 cyl car, the contacts open 4 times per crank rev whilst the bike ones open once per rev

Some taco's take power pulses off the altinator and can be set up for your vehicle. Might this be suitable
