CB500/550 / oil pressure
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:22:22 PM »
oil pressure light not going out when i turn it over.

no oil leaks

brand new oil

checked the scavenger pipe etc all seems flush and sealing.

started after removing the sump and clutch cover to remove the kick start mech. have decided not to run the gears on the shaft as not using it. (could this cause any drop in pressure ?)

any suggestions ?

new exhaust valves in and head back on all timed up but still not firing. sparks on every cylinder.

the fuel feed on the cb550 k3 carbs is the larger of the two ?

just trying to eliminate any stupid faults

cant see what the problem is now ?  >:(

CB500/550 / low compression woes
« on: June 15, 2010, 07:40:05 PM »
Just turned her over with fuel in with little or no compression in 1 and 4 a small amount in 2 and 3. (not been measured yet!)

checked the timing, bang on.

checked the torque on the head, all to book spec but seems pretty loose as cylinder heads go ? 20.nm to 22.nm by the cylmer manual (is this wrong) ?

investigating top end first before checking for valve problems. ( have checked he valves clearances and they are set to book)

(damn, sh*t and bugger, thought this afternoon maybe her maiden voyage, electrics all sorted but not firing and no fuel on the plugs)

CB500/550 / getting blonder - petcock blanking
« on: June 03, 2010, 10:02:06 AM »
So i am using a 500 tank on my 550k3 and the petcock has two supplies to the carb rather than one and for anal tidiness (yes it has got well into that stage now) i dont want to use a plastic t piece as this is messy and takes too much space for good fuel flow so i want to blank on of the petcocks holes. so as you look at the image i think blank the right and run it on constant reserve or does it not matter a toot which one i do.

cheers

Jim
