Trying to find bike boots for my dad is a bloody nightmare.
Due to his hemochromatosis and swelling joints he struggles to do boots up.
We are currently looking for some boots that will easily fit under textile trousers and not have zips to fasten them and ideally not be to heavy.
Any thoughts on short bike boots?

I have never really been in to bike boots and have always found rigger boots work well, cheaper and waterproof ;)

We have been considering rigger boots. I like to wear my work boots but they don't really protect your ankles.
The second you said cheaper dads ears pricked up and he's thinking about them again. ;D

They look interesting I suppose I could always spray them with WD40 it will help stop hes feet rusting in the rain aswell. ;D

I wear Aldi walking boots.They claim waterproof. Light weight. Cleated sole.
And very reasonable priced .

Yep, hiking boots in the summer, riggers for winter. I am sure the last pair of riggers i got from screwfix had ankle pads and were £22 ;)

Seem to remember Lidl did some velcro fastener ones going back a few years. At the time I was pleased to get a set of waterproof bike boots after the last set from M&P turned out to be waterproof in the sence of a thin plastic bag between the lining and the outside, lasted about a few months before the insole moved and the plastic bag ripped. Added insult to injury as when I bought them online my card details were used to remove £1800 from my account - pretty damn sure this was down to my M&P purchase as that was my only card use in a month. I got the money back from the bank as it was fraud but let's say they ain't seen my custom since then. Thinking back on it I think I had 2 sets of those lidl bike boots over the years. Lasted quite well, especially given the bike was my only transport over those years so they got the abuse of all year round commuting, not being cleaned at all often and the odd leaky gearbox or petrol tank disaster - I hate how often fuel line proves not fit for perpouse and fractures after a few months. I found renapur leather treatment was ace at waterproofing any kind of leathers, boots to jackets.
Not sure if lidl still do the motorbike gear, not seen it in a while but it's that way with Lidl. When it was in stock it sold very fast and was pretty good.

I do most of my riding in London...so I take no chances and wear MX boots with shedloads of padding/protection.

I wear MX boots too had them donkeys years now. There getting a bit worn now with hardley any tread left on the soles.
I find there steel toes are great for leaving nice wavey scratches on car doors when they cut you up.
You would think there easy to get on as they open up alot but there far to stiff and heavy for him.

They cost more than cheap rigger boots but I recommend Altberg Hogg boots.
They lace up, so open wide, easy to get feet in and lots of adjustment.
Very strong boots, waterproof and will survive anything.
If you make an appointment you can go to the factory in Yorkshire for personal fitting and advice.

I only wear rigger boots now , I like the dewalt boots they are the best I have worn

I've been wearing these for a few years now and are the most comfortable boot I've worn, even for walking about in......they have a zip side, lace front and velcro top strap, so an easy fit:

These boots have laces but they are locked by a spring toggle and covered by a large Velcro flap.
You don't have to tie and untie the laces. You pull them to tension them then slide the spring toggle down to lock them.

Trigger just reminded me I had some vouchers and bought two pairs of rigger boots from Screwfix.
Not had the time to try them out yet :(

I'm wearing now for several years Daytona Burdit GTX shoes.
Never had better ones, 100% waterproof, but still breathable, even compare to other brands (for example Aplinestars SMX Plus GTX are not breathing compare to these)
Very comfortable, don't know about them even after full day use
No zipper, just welcro, not very heavy, looks good under textil trousers.
Only drawback is price..

I used to wear Daytona's for speedway. Water, shale and crash proof! I would have kept them for road riding when I gave up riding speedway but the left boot had a flat sole to allow the wearing of a steel shoe.

I wear these BKS boots, classic enough to go with a black open face Bell helmet and goggles, and black leather jacket and jeans.
