Interchangeability / CB650 comstar interchangeability

Hi all, my intention is to do a spoke conversion on my comstar wheels. I have purchased a 16"stainless steel rim for the rear now I need a donor wheel to chop the hub from. I have been looking on the bay of e and there are a few on there but wondered if say a cm400 or cb250 rear wheel would also fit. Remember I only need the actual hub so rim size is inconsequential. That's correct I believe. I think the picture showing the adaption is on a cb750.

Thanks for the positivity ! just a few more bit to do like new stainless hagon shock, probably get cm400s as theyre 25mm shorther .... not a lot but subtle and my feet will comfortably be on the floor. I just hope it doesn't throw out the geometry too much. I reckon 25mm isn't too crazy.

When I had the exhaust fabricated the chap didn't put in a balance pipe between the two down pipes either side. He did say he could put them in if necessary but ive not noticed anything untoward? I believe the pipe is for exhaust scavenging or some kind of pulse resonance? Dunno but they work fine.

Heres a pic of what the bike started like it was covered in cobwebs before the chap gave it a little scrub down ... Not too bad but all the nuts and bolts etc were rusted the rear mudguard was creased and rusted. The tank paintwork was rusted near the seat and along the seal. The side panels had a nice drippy finished hand sprayed look . Fork stanchions rust spotted under those gators and leaky oil seals. The Battery was shot but we used a jump lead from a car. it just started but was well rough.

Hi Hairygit, thanks for the welcome. Im actually in Exeter about 4 miles from Woodbury...lol I am a shortarse hence this bike. I did have a cb1000 'big one' but after trying to move it around even after I lowered the seat a modicum my feet would ineffectively skim the floor creating no traction , I soon realised that I needed a smaller bike...

Hi and welcome, the 650 is quite rare in the UK, was never that popular when new, but is a good compromise between power and weight. Your bike looks good!

It didn't look like this when I first bought it... It was in a shed for a few years and it was standard looking. I started to restore it with the intention of leaving it standard but re-sprayed and de-rusted etc. I took the tank and side panels to a local fella in Dawlish with the intention of getting them done in black but last minute I said feck it put some flames on and de-badge it! The other bits I've done : re-hard chromed the forks, lucas light at the rear and bates at the front, had to chop up the loom a bit to fit a single speedo with idiot lights built in, had the 4 into four made up in stainless steel as the original was holey, swapped the original single disc front end with the twin disc front end, cleaned and synched the carbs, butchered the seat and got it recovered and a few other less obvious things.
Hi and welcome , these old aircooled bikes do get very hot and smelly especially on a hot summers day stuck in traffic, when i get stuffed up in traffic and it all gets hot it makes me want to sell the bikes and stick to something modern, they are horrible when hot , but on a nice crisp spring or autumn ride out i would have nothing else, an oilcooler might help a little bit, but not a great deal

I guess its something that id like to try to do for a couple reasons: 1 it might look cool and 2 it may help to keep it cool literally.

Agree with you when you get them home smell really hot but after checking oil level and wiping it on my hand the oil is not that hot not to burn wise anyway wierd

Hello all thanks for having me! After finally passing my test last year I purchased a cb650c (along with nearly two spare cb650s in bits/boxes...)which I have been tinkering with since . Not sure how to post pics but I will if possible. Anyway, Apart from the once fortnightly 'long ride' most of my time on bike is around the city. Being air cooled it does need the air slamming into the fins to cool it down (obviously). When sitting in traffic it soon feels like your sitting on a boiling cauldron of, well, oil. I'm pretty sure it can't be too good for the old engine, it is 33 years old after all.So I thought about it and eureka! What about an oil cooler? Does the later 650dohc oil cooler fit my 650sohc? Well, after a google later I found myself here searching for a solution to my question. I believe it will, but it needs an adapter plate. And there was a chap on here who made such a thing. So basically any advice/info would be appreciated on this matter...,
