Title: Anyone ever ordered fenders from Vietnam?
Post by: alexdecker on January 23, 2023, 09:25:59 AM
Hey all

Saw these eBay auctions. Have anyone of you ever ordered fender sourced from Vietnam? And if yes, what is your experience with them?

They look akay - not sure if you would have to pay import duty to the UK or elsewhere.

A fair time ago on here there was more extensive discussion about supplies from there, seem to remember it was generally favourable and with some aiming to buy them unchromed to have that done UK for quality reason.

I ordered one for my 750 K1 before I managed to find an original.
The quality was fairly good a bit of fiddling to get it to fit and the fixing holes could have been a bit better quality.
The one you are looking at isn't the same supplier that I got mine from.
Import duty will be payable unless you can get it on the eBay international shipping where it is pre paid.
I have just got a casting for the CD175 from the states with this and duty was sorted at the point of shipping.
Only issue was Evri leaving it on my doorstep in full view to anyone, I'm just to honest and put a complaint in, should have told them it went missing  ::) ::)

"unless you can get it on the eBay international shipping where it is pre paid."

I didnt realise or quite understand the terms of that until recently I bought a circle from Italy  ;D (amusing translation of a cycle wheel rim nos from a supplier there) that was very efficiently delivered too.

All very convenient.

Bought a 750 K0 double-cut front one, when they first started selling them but got him to supply it 'raw' as he called it i.e un-chromed but polished
Got it chromed in the UK and turned out nice. The rolled edge on the inside is (was at the time ) hand done, so not quite a neat as the Honda one but externally looked fine.

He gave me special treatment, as he thought I was a woman  ;D ....  Ashley is also a girls name, particularly in the USA.

The Yamiya repro K0 double-cut  is around £1k once you have paid the duty and shipping.

I seem to recall Philward getting one and having trouble with the way it looked when fitted, I remember he had to alter it to make it fit right.

Ok if you can't find an original, better than nothing.

Saying that, why the hell have they drilled it for a mudflap, spoils the look completely.

This one is better and will fit.

If I had to give any advice I'd say flood the inside of the reinforcing plates on the underside with Zinc182 paint or you'll find they become water traps and will rot the guard from the inside out.

The DS front mudguards  for the 500  both state that they may need washers fitting to the stays to make them fit correctly.

Ted, that because the early models did not have the rubberdoughnuts and top hat washers like the later ones

As Ken said, I bought one for my 500k2 (can't remember the exact seller) and I had to elongate the main mounting hole as otherwise the rear of the guard was to close to the tyre compared to standard. Otherwise the quality and finish was to a good standard.
