Title: My other bikes.
Post by: Johnny4428 on January 20, 2023, 09:59:34 AM
May or may not be of interest to others here. With the days starting to stretch out it’s got me thinking of better days ahead with spring, summer etc got me looking at my last years summer pics. Here’s some pics of my other bikes.
All in winter storage at the minute except the Pan.
(I have to say the C90 thing was something I had to do) (over it now)😂😂😂

Nice collection of bikes - apart from the C90s!😉 I've ridden one in the past and don't see the attraction at all. 😣

In my case Gareth nostalgia! But I have to agree with you. I used to nick my older brothers one when he was at work and set off, I’d probably been about 13/14 at the time. The 12 volt newer ones make a fine runabout. How I ended up with 4 slightly baffles myself sometimes!🤨🤨

Thank god for that! Funny enough they are the only bikes of mine that I would consider selling. So I dare say I won’t be expecting an offer from you Gareth! 🤣

Nice little line-up there. I think the Cubs look great, but I haven't ever ridden one!

Always saw the Cubs as a tool for a job but not mine. However latterly something about the CT trail range appeals....

Also used to hate the American market CL250 / 350 / 450  bikes but love them now.

First bike I ever rode was a C50, never got on with the front brake raising the suspension rather than the other way round. However, loved mine, my Dad gave me his old one KDB 51F, which I called Roy as my younger brother was called Roy and the reg plate spelled Kens Daft Brother so I thought it appropriate, no 1st gear, no kickstart, but I still lived on it until I spotted another in Battleship Grey and bought that, another F reg, JNA 39F, couldn't make anything out of the reg number so after that they were all called Herbie after the Love Bug film going around at the time. Rode the C70 and the C90, both 6v and 12v and thought they were great as well, especially with the extra power. Fond memories.

Many years later I bought my younger brother a brand new CB250N when I was at Queenies, I picked the reg and it was KDB 415V, so full circle. Weird how we remember all the old reg numbers. I still have the spare keys for the 250N, found them the other year in a box. Anyone need key number 208 or steering lock number Nieman 141130 let me know.

Well I like 'em Johnny - they attracted a lot of interest at the rallies here and the shear volume of production will be hard to beat - ever.  Over 100 million units so far!  I still have a fully auto C50, had a C90 and now a C125 Super Cub - fuel injected and got 166mpg on a trip down to Fife.  Proper forks Ken, so no feeling that you just ran over a cat when braking!

Plenty others - will find some pics.  CB's 350, 400 and now 550. A 2 wheeled Grey Fergie - oh sorry, I mean an RT100 BMW.

Happy memory of being on my C70 in about 1975 and going on to reserve in the outside lane of the A3, shouldn’t have been there really!

I do like the CT versions. There are also the  Oz market ‘posties’. I think I’ve seen modern versions of those, new ones available but only sold to the post office, iirc.

A Welsh mate of mine when I was a student in Derby back in the 1960's had a new C90 iirc it had an electric start. He lived with his Grandma in Derby in the week doing his A levels - he commuted home on it at weekends to North Wales so it must have been reliable.

Seeing as the thread is titled “My other bikes” and not “My C90s”, here is my other bike.

Steve - that bike looks scary standing still - way too powerful & intimidating for a rider of my age - I do love the thrum of a three cylinder engine - seat looks as comfortable as a skateboard though. ;D ;D ;D

This dates me the only triple I have ever ridden was a Yamaha XS750 in the early 1980's when I used to do trade collections for a local TVR/Lotus dealer in Hatton. (long since closed)

Nice bike Steve! Adrenalin rush on two wheels!

I must say that you can see a lot more on a particular journey on a C90 than my other bikes. 45mph, although you can get 50 if the conditions are right.😂
The last time I set off on the old 6 volt I about turned after 7 miles and made for home, parked up and set off on 550. 🤣🤣

I do like the look of those. How does the fly by wire throttle feel?
I'm missing my Street Triple. 😕

Where I'm from they were always affectionately referred to as 'Dogbox 50's or Dogbox 90's'

At one point all the lads had them for the winter and we'd be laying them down around the Prince of Wales roundabout in town .....'of an evening' ;D ;D  ragging about and racing each other with as many as 10 or 12 of us lurching and stamping through the gears being pests round town.  My 90 was simply a 'munter', matt black everything, and I mean everything ;D and purely ridden for sh*ts and giggles what a hoot. My pal Jonny was a bit of a village idiot but could kind of fix anything and after one quite spirited 'get off' after he was trying really hard to go inside my other mate 'Harry jnr' he was found repairing his said pile of Honda dogbox with a bit of dry stone wall ;D ;D ;D
In the end, that particular bike ended up with a foot throttle on a cable with a loop on the end that fitted over is pumps. It was all so dangerous but such fun ;D ;D ;D
Love all of the cubs, they were simply fab bikes and although I have had a look at he new ones, I've not seen one or heard one on the road yet. I saw you got good milage from your new one Ian, I think they've kept the look, nostalgia and appeal and especially in the new design, they look fab.

I suppose a lot of these bikes met their end with us young bucks. (Who said they were indestructible)😂
I guess my brothers elephant grey C90 was the first motorbike that I had ridden. Hence the nostalgia.
When I was searching the inter web for 1 there was for sale 1 running and another in bits. So that’s how I ended up with 2 instead of just the 1. Then someone had mentioned that the newer shape 12 volt model was a better bike (which I agree with) so was on the look out for one of them that became number 3. It wasn’t the colour I wanted so that’s how number 4 came along. (Shit happens)🤣🤣

Johnny,
Do you mind that C50 Auto that our good friend Colin Ross (R.I.P.) had rescued from a skip and you and I had a quick play with it at the Vintage Rally and it ran after years of neglect?  Wonder if Stevie has it now?

Yes Ian! I was a bit amazed myself that it just been dragged from a skip and started and purred like a kitten. It certainly made Colin’s day. I actually wondered about all Colin’s bikes to be honest and wondered if they woul all be kept in his memory or would any be sold. I think his brothers now have ownership.

That’s a nice line up of bikes. Love this thunderbird. I could quite happily live with one of them. Like the “go anywhere” bikes too!

I'm with you Roo,
Not really into off roaders, although I'm helping restore a Fuzzuki TS250X for a friend but I wouldn't say no to an XL250 Motorsport - I missed a cracker many years ago and still regret it.

Theyre simply bullet proof and run for ever, I had great fun at school at my mate's farm on a 185 it was simply brilliant!

I hada Dominator when I worked in London, that was a proper traffic weapon. I'd doanother oneof those!

I'll stic to road bikes, having a mortal fear of front end wash outs, being off road isnt a comfy place for me soI'm crap at it. I appreciate the tech in them, etc but after a very brief spin on a road going CR500 two stroke single, rapidly followed followed by an unexpected bowel movement I decided to stick to the road.

Like a fat quad though, had a Banshee 350 for a bit, that was a hoot on the road on cut slicks drifting round roundabouts. A lot of a licence looser so I sold it after a couple of months;D

After 3 years of suffering the delights(??) of a Raleigh Runabout moped, I splashed out and bought this new CM91. WOW!! hub brakes, battery lights, even had gears!! And of course the luxury of front and rear suspension, that on the front was fitted with the extra link so that the front forks acted 'normally' on braking. Upon taking delivery, the dealer said "The key goes in there, that's the throttle, that's the front brake, that's the rear, take your test on this then you can ride anything, away you go". They tell me that things are a little different nowadays.  I've only ever owned Hondas since, this being the first of about 15 I think.

I could only dream of a Honda C90 or Raleigh Runabout - I had an NSU Quickly (another oxymoron) should have been branded the NSU Slowly.

Top speed would drop 5mph per month until you decoked it again.

NSU Quickly that brings back some memories, my first powered vehicle and my first crash, into a Ford Escort, my dad fixed it up no proble (forks).
The bike was my dad's old one and I got to use it as he had by then bought an NSU Quick 50.

Cheers
