Look up CL77 (350cc) / CL72 (250CC)  US soft off road look, raised pipe, lovely looking motor. I love them but not everyone's cup of tea!!

Mine was a great bike in doing what it should - and more when i tuned and raced it! A bit a bit characterless as standard. It just did everything well.

I had no carb or generator issues or any others not related to abuse.😱 I don't know if the later and rarer 450 version was more reliable with the generator etc. Basically the same bike in most aspects I think

Think wheels are standard reverse Comstars. They were a rapid bike when launched, then the CB900 styled version followed on.

I am not advocating this as an answer Mike - if you are running the standard air cleaner system there are adjustments that you could make with the needle rather than changing any jets - raising all four  needles on the sliders would richen the mixture at any given throttle opening. (i.e.one groove lower than the mid point effectively raising the needle in the jet)

There must be a reason why they put five grooves in the needle - might be for those living at high or low altitudes.

Its indolvable Ted as its not the jetting doing this.

Its too high a ratio for the torque available to pull, but if you sent it downhill in that gear (removing some resistance effectively) then it would carry on rising in revs.

Raising the needles will just make it rich for all of the general running scenarios other than this one. It's set correctly as it is.

Needle adjustment is there for scenarios you described though, primarily altitude. It would also be unacceptable to produce a carburettor with no adjustment too, then expect a long service life out of it. It just must have some level of compensation built in to cover reasonable eventuality in its usage.

Love your techy explanations Nigel. I now understand CV carbs more.

Brilliantly well thought out as one would expect from you Ash.

Have to say at one point I thought you'd dropped your dentures onto your work.😜

I often think of removing the inside of the Honda part and fitting one of these and then potting in epoxy. These caps are good for +125 degrees C It would look standard too. There is also a 0.22uF version.

Come on Ash, you know you want to...😜

Well it seems I may be on the right lines  :) https://brightsparkmagnetos.com/products/pages/about

Ha ha you have SPARKED my enthusiasm.  :D

For the non purist and mentality inept sparky, would one of those options work on our Honda  ignition? Refers to compatability with battery "Kettering" setups?

Yes the standard Honda ignition is a 'Kettering' type ignition system.

Intrigued by the Kettering name / person. He also invented the electric self starter! And much else.

Yes but that was his son Mick's project in Clay Cross. I may be wrong but I think they use the unit now for some classic bike museum....

I only ever knew Minions to be on the road south of Derby near DRI as was. There was a dealer diagonally opposite, think they were Yam and Kwak specialists! Name escapes me but think faint a recollection they are still trading in Nottingham?

Remembered - That dealer was Roy Pidcock.

At great expense I purchased an all steel T shaped handled JIS driver from Fred Palin's the local dealer. You could hammer the end into the screws and apply great force via the T handle. I had to drill the heads off 3 or four of the screws.

Palins, a blast from the past Ted. There was Bob Minions too. Still there last time I knew but Palins not the case. Also Samways, who again were still about but more bicycles stuff and smaller scooters? Samways for the highways was the slogan as I recall...

More local to me at the time in Duffield was Bill Lomas in Milford. Ex racer and his son Mick was no slouch on a bike.

That's lookin very swish Ted. Credit to all your hard work.
