Desperately Seeking!! / 400/4 Air Filter 'Panching Plates'
« Last post by Laverda Dave on Today at 01:12:57 PM »
Yes, this is the fancy name for the two perforated metal plates that sandwich the piece of foam inbetween them. They sit in the bottom of the metal air filter housing/battery box and act as a filter for any gases etc before they run down the breather pipe via the plastic chamber located below the air filter housing.
Does anyone have a pair of the plates they would like to sell please?
The part numbers are 17354-377-000 & 17355-377-000, They are item numbers 27 & 28 in the parts book. I'm happy to pay if anyone has them. They are now unobtainable from Honda, DSS and CSMNL. I have tried Steve at 400Bits but he only has the bare air filter box itself.
I guess these are two of the parts that end up flying over the shoulder of PO's back in the day when they didn't know where they were supposed to go during a rebuild ::).

This is the problem when you buy a project bike that is 90% complete, the missing 10% are always the parts you struggle to get :-\

Hopefully the Saturn V rocket I'm going to restore next in the back yard is all there although I can already see the 'FIRE' button is missing :o

I'm with you on this Ash I'm a Leftie.
Blimey, it's going political ....what if someone is centrist  :-\  I'm politically mobile myself so I don't really give a hoot which way around it is from that viewpoint!  ;D

Sorry, I presume this has been asked before, but can someone recommend the best workshop manual for the CB550 K

Apparently it's a French one! 🤣

My spindle nut is on the left. You don’t have to take out the spindle to remove the wheel. Slacken the spindle nut, disconnect the brake connections on the right hand side, split the chain(or remove from sprocket), then the whole wheel, sprocket, adjusters and brake plate slide out backwards in one assembly.

Replace in reverse order, as they say in the best manuals!

I think the F1's were always a nice looking bike especially in that colour (and of course, in yellow). Lovely open roads with some bends in them.

I have the standard Bahco 1/4 drive set that someone here recommended a great little set.

Bahco/SO/Blue Point group appear to have cornered the market.

Somewhat related...as far as whether the nut goes on the right or left regarding having a puncture...

Although I haven't had a puncture in many years, I patched many a tube on the side of the road without removing the wheel so I don't see the nut location as an issue I'd be concerned about, at least for that purpose.

But it sounds like if you're doing concours stuff, it DOES matter.

The fact that the L was a half grade came from the same reptat suggested d7ev to me, and that man knew how to read plugs

Thats noted on some published charts too .... the -L designation.

https://www.ngk.com/ngk-spark-plug-numbering-systems this lists that design element, although note that they have a statement of NOT being NGK USA official scource.

The listed data looks comprehensive though.

From a wheel installation point of view ... usually I roll the wheel in, put chain on sprocket (not usually split) then roll wheel back and put spindle in that side, push through to brake plate, hold the spacer in there to fully locate wheel and then complete the whole thing by holding wheel rim at top as it's still located on chain side to facilitate alignment through right side of swingarm.
