Title: Cylinder Head for '76 CB750 SOHC
Post by: sbenzie on December 11, 2020, 07:52:19 PM
Hi All,

New the forum, nice to meet you all. I have a badly mangled exhaust stud thread on the cylinder head of my 76 CB750 SOHC project bike. My bike builder (working on the more heavy duty items for me due to a lack of a workshop as I am apartment bound) who managed to rescue 7 out of 8 studs, has suggested that whilst of course the last remaining mangled one can be repaired, the labour cost to do so would be more expensive than locating a replacement cylinder head.

So, question is, does anyone have a reconditioned cylinder head that they wish to sell to suit this bike? Massive bonus if it is already powercoated black!

Look forward to seeing what you have and appreciate your help!

Cheers!
Sam

Welcome Sam - hope you find what your looking for - have you got any pictures of the stte of the stud, you never know, it might still be repairable in other peoples opinion

In the worst case it can be spark eroded out. Not sure that would cost as much as replacing the head?

Thanks all! Just waiting to get the bike back from builder in the next couple of weeks and will post pictures of the thread to see what you all think! Appreciate the help thus far!

Is the cyl head off the bike Sam (just asking as you say your 'getting the bike back') - as opposed to getting parts of the bike back? Obviously, removing stud in situ is more tricky.

Something very wrong here. A engine builder should not even put a engine back together until all repairs are done. I must of done thousands of thread repairs over the years and never found one that can not be done.
By the way, Welcome to the mad world of the SOHC  ;)

This also sounds odd to me, unless there is damage to the head it should be a simple and cheap job to fix, I also had one on my 76 CB750F1 that broke but it was no problem to fix and has never bothered me since.
