I have a CB550 F and I wondered if I could change the existing sprocket(s) to give better cruising speed at lower revs. I relise there would be a cost in acceleration but does anyone have any advice on this?

I suggest you try one tooth more on the gearbox. And see how it copes

Should be ok. My sidecar cb500 came with 2 less teeth on the rear sprocket as I recall, went like stink up to legal speeds. I took to ordering std sets and it cost a bit of performance but still good fun, depends on how you ride but I'd go for it and see if it inproves mpg or the lower revs make you enjoy distances more. The engine can certainly pull the extra gearing without issues.

The CB550K3-ED had 17 and 34 (like the CB500 had) to market it as the tourer compared to the somewhat sportier F models. You could do the same.
