Title: Frame ID Plate
Post by: waffey on March 11, 2018, 08:57:30 AM
Hi

another question. The frame ID plate, what does everyone do with it when restoring the frame. Remove it before working on the frame or protect it? It looks like a couple of rivets hold it on.

You can either put it back on with new rivets when the bike is finished or not bother as the VIN in stamped into the headstock as well.

It has a sticky glue as well as rivets, so be careful taking it off, easy to buckle it up and ruin it. If you have the frame powder coated it usually renders the number on the headstock unreadable, so it's worth putting the plate back on, avoids aggro if you get pulled by a grumpy copper!
