Title: Morning from Kent
Post by: Fenderfreak on March 22, 2018, 09:46:11 AM
Hi all,

Thanks for adding me to the forum.

Just started a restoration of a CB250K3 (1971).

So will be looking to the forum for advice, tips and general guidance.

Already had a scan round and some great info available.

Thanks again

Welcome, I am restoring 3 x  CB250K0's and a CB350K1 All 1969's. One I am building as a JDM model with chrome tank panels and combined speedo/tacho and one I am building as a Gold/White K2 because that's what I had as a poor student (it had a Read Titan 325cc conversion but still reg'd as 250!  I also owned a 250K3 and 350K4 'back in the day'.

I found two 250K0's recently at the end of 2016, one in a garage in bits ..one in his council garage which  had less than 6k on the clock .The garden one had less than 5k miles on the clock but   left outside buried  under loads of junk to rot.

You will find a scan of the Genuine Honda Shop manual in my Dropbox links on here. I only have parts books for K0,K1,K2 & JDM but I can probably find a link if you wish.

Here's mine circa late 1975 think it was taken at Brantingham Dale... East Yorks. I fitted Genuine  'dealer take off warranty claim'  G5 silencers as even then the K series Genuine  silencers were either rotted out or mega expensive new. Exhausts are hens teeth items these days and hence mega expensive. Dave Silver does repro's which are OK but the seams are too big ....I did get some made as a one off though (same maker as DS uses) with smaller seams which look so much nicer.

What do you meant Pete :) I had just had my hair cut for a interview   :)

Funnily enough all of my old 250/350k's I had back then are still on DVLA register HDT 2J (K2), SRV 974K (K3 in pic) , OAT 83M CB350K4

Thanks gents for all the comments and links, they will be very useful.

Once I suss out how to attach photos I will.

My K3 was a running bike and road legal but ran like a dog, no death rattles but no power. When I got it home compression was down to 90psi as opposed to around 170 🤔

Previous owner did say he did some work on the valves! So complete engine strip down at some point.

Checked previous mileage on the mot site and every year mileage is different, some years gaining miles others losing thousands!, so not sure what it’s true value.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers

Nice basis for a restoration. I think the front guard has been swapped for a US style one though. UK has stays that run inside the blade. Definitely K3 style forks though as K4 had pinch bolts at the top.

The photos flatter it, it’s in quiet poor condition. The front mud guard is bent dented and fusty so have bought a replacement from DS, another US pattern one. Need to find a half decent rear guard at some point

The deeply valanced UK rear one is a hens teeth item .. even crabby but solid ones are £100 on eBay. DK have one in primer ??  which I went to look at in the flesh but it was rubbish when I got there so I passed up on it.  I do have a really nice condition USA one though which I was putting on eBay sometime if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer, if it’s better than the one already on there I would be interested. 👍

I will dig it out and photo if you are interested. It's totally solid and the chrome is really nice. I paid £55 for it after haggling with a bloke for ages at Stafford so that's what I am asking for it.  I also bought the rear lamp bracket for it off eBay and that was a tenner if you are interested. Cheers Ash
