Title: Engine Paint
Post by: BrianC500 on April 08, 2018, 08:08:27 PM
After searching the forum it would seem the three types of paint to use are Simoniz Aluminium VHT, POR15 and 2 pack. I have 2 questions: Which is closer to the original Honda colour? and / or Which do you think will give the best result?

Eagerly awaiting your expert advice...grovel, grovel.

Simoniz Aluminium VHT every time.
The one on the left is Simoniz, on the right original SOHC Honda (late engine).
The engine in the background is Simoniz.

Prep of casings is very important to get an excellent finish.

All the casings have been vapour blasted and thoroughly washed and cleaned. All oil ways have been blasted out to make sure no media has been left behind. Would you suggest a scotchbrite pad and wipe down with thinners?

If you feel the cases are rough enough for a good key, scotchbrite probably not needed. Yes, spray down with thinners or even better dunk in a tank of thinners.

I'd advise you to remove the blanking plug behind the alternator so you can clean the glass beads out more thoroughly.  I learned the hard way.

Thanks for the advice. All taken on board and ready to examine every nook and cranny.
