Title: chrome wheels
Post by: ricardo on September 28, 2018, 06:18:26 PM
Hi all esp Matron.
My wheels are black   Should I get them dipped and stripped or should I assume that they were blackened as the chrome underneath was rusty.

Some owners paint them black just because they like the look of them like that but most do it due to rust. If you have them stripped and they are rusty, the stripping process will make the wheels worse, It may be more cost effective in the long run buying new wheels and spokes. Is it paint or powder coat  and can you remove a section of it to see what is underneath the coating ?

Really depends on what you want Ricardo. If you are going for a restoration and you want chrome wheels the're not that expensive to buy. Probably better to buy old ones from ebay rather than trying to strip the others back.

Many thanks. I'll chew it over while I'm doing the engine.
