This is the small metal ramp that fits inside the bottom half of the right hand switchgear on the CB350, CB360, CB500, CB750 and CL360.
It can also be fitted to both the CB400F, CB550F and CB550K if you want to fit one.
This feature was removed from models after the CB500, it was fitted to enable a fast idle for checking advance/retard unit operation for example. In essence it locks the throttle where you want it, this is very handy on motorways for instance when the pressure of holding the throttle open gets a little wearing. Under the switchgear is a large chrome thumb screw fitted with a chrome spring. When this is screwed in it pushes this small ramp up against the throttle pipe, the more you screw the thumb screw in the stiffer the throttle becomes. So on a motorway you just wind in the screw until the throttle stays open by itself. Most of these ramps get lost when you open the switchgear to change bars or a cable for instance. They tend to drop out and you don't notice, fit these with plenty of grease and they stand a better chance of staying in. If you have a CB400F or a CB550F/K you can still fit one by just drilling and tapping the small boss which is still fitted but never used. You need a 5mm tap. Fit the ramp, the thumb screw and spring and you now have this handy feature.
If you have the thumb screw and spring fitted and winding it in does nothing then the ramp is missing. It's just a small piece of metal bend into a special shape. It is quite expensive for what it is, common price is around $7 but it's the postage that kills buying it from the states, I found quite a few last year and bought the lot so as to split the cost to acceptable levels.
Cost is £7 inc P&P. If you buy with a set of clutch shims or felt washers I'll do them for £5.
I have 10 only. Once they're gone, they're gone as the saying goes.
-
Hi Ken, can I have one of these as well as the shims requested earlier please, any idea when the shims will be ready?
-
Done mate, posted on the thread yesterday they were ready.
-
Apologies hadn't seen the post until after you replied, £17.00 sent friends and family.
-
Have I got your postal address Clive?
Can't remember, if not please PM it.
Payment received BTW. Will send on Tuesday due to Bank Holiday.
-
Hi Ken,
I'll have one of these please (if you have any left), I'll PM you my details.
Thanks,
Martyn
-
Hi Ken, sent you my address on the 7th September in a message, will send it again.
-
All packed up and ready to go Clive.
Martyn I've got your address, I'll PM you PayPal details.
I now have 8 left.
-
Just 5 left. I kept 3 for my own use but I only really need 1 so if push comes to shove I can sell 7.
I have sourced some NOS thumb screws and springs, Roo kindly let me have them sent to him whilst he's in the States as the postage was exorbitant for such a small part, about £20 IIRC, how they justify that I have no idea.
I have 6 springs and 2 thumb screws available, I'll need to work out a price when the final bill is tallied but they won't be available until November when Roo comes back.
Managed to source 2 more thumb screws, so now have 4 available.
-
Ken, I’ll have a ramp thingy, definitely missing one. Have spring and screw fitted already. I’ll sort payment.
-
Payment received John, will be in the post Tuesday due to bank holiday
-
Recieved throttle ramp thingy yesterday Ken! Thanks again!
-
I have managed to acquire via Roo a number of genuine Honda thumb screws and springs that go with the ramps. I have 6 pairs of springs and thumb screws.
I'm trying to work out the cost of these at the moment but around £18 inc P&P for a pair is a rough guide. If you want a ramp along with it then £23 inc P&P
-
I need a screw & spring please.
-
Yeah, already had one ear marked for you Ted.
You drilled and tapped the switch gear yet?
-
Yeah, already had one ear marked for you Ted.
You drilled and tapped the switch gear yet?
No not yet I'm months away from that. Failing to plan is Planning to fail.
-
Well after working my sums out it appears I may have got a bit of a bargain when I bought these, so revised price is £12 for spring and thumb screw inc P&P. £5 more if you buy the ramp at the same time. All are brand new, in perfect condition, no rust or corrosion.
-
When do you want my money Ken?
-
Whenever you're ready Ted.
-
PM'd my address dosh on its way.
-
If you have all 3 parts (full set) left, I'll have a set please Ken
-
Yes Phil I still have all 3 parts needed.
You know the PayPal address I presume.
-
Just sent money Ken - have you still got my address?
-
Yeah Phil, already packed up and will be sent tomorrow.
Cheers.
-
Cheers Ken, much appreciated
-
Does your right hand switchgear have the little threaded hole between the cables Phil, it should have if it's a 500 piece.
-
Its for my 750k2 (500 already has a set). Just checked and its got an m5 thread
-
That's fine then Phil, same setup as the 500.
-
Cheers Ken
-
Hi Ken, if still available, I'd take full set too (all 3 needed parts)
-
Still available Erny, not sure on postage though. Can't remember if I got charged more when you bought the clutch shims, let me check first please.
-
Got mine yesterday Ken - all fitted and working. Many thanks again
-
Yeah, sorry about the delay Phil.
-
Sorry for delay Erny, cost for all 3 parts sent to Slovakia is £20 inc P&P.
You should still have my PayPal address if that's acceptable.
Still have your address.
-
Still got at least one left.
-
Hi,
I'll have your last wedge please. PO must have lost mine ramp/wedge.
I'll PM you.
Cheers,
Jerry
-
I know I have the screw so I assume I bought the ramp from you Ken?
I do not have a list of parts on my new parts box yet. :(
-
Yes Ted you bought all 3 parts needed.
I was wrong, after looking at the bag they are stored in I still have 3 sets left, less one for cbxman and that leaves 2.
I have 2 spare springs and 1 spare ramp, it's the thumb screws which I don't have enough of. All parts are brand new, never fitted.
-
Just to clarify cbxman, you just need the ramp?
If so that’s £7, if you want all 3 parts, thumb screw, spring and ramp that’s £17 inc p&p.
I have 3 full sets left.
-
Hello, do you have any ramps left please?
-
Yes, I still have 2 full sets of all 3 parts, 2 spare springs and 1 spare ramp.
Price for just ramp is £7 inc P&P. Cost for all 3 parts is £17 inc P&P.
Most of the thumb screws and springs are pretty rusty after so many years and the cost of having them re-chromed makes it cheaper to buy new I'm afraid.
Just noticed I never listed a price for just the spring. £5 inc P&P.
No thumbscrews available separately I'm afraid.
-
Thanks for your reply.
My spring and screw are in good condition so I just need a ramp please.
How should I pay you, via PayPal?
-
PayPal is fine.
PM me for details and don't forget to inc postal address please.
-
Just 1 set left. Plus 2 NOS springs.
I won't be getting any more of these I don't think, unless of course I spot a bargain somewhere.
-
Last set now sold. Just 2 springs left, £5 each in P&P
