Title: F1 alloy oil tank dip stick ??
Post by: bluemouse1006 on October 25, 2012, 08:44:00 PM
Hi
Doing a mad convention on a F1 where I'm using another oil tank the other way round with the back ( was the front ) cut out to cover the electrics  on the left hand side ! Brackets welded on the frame to look very like the otherside . ( bare look without the covers )
I need an alloy dipstick to match the real one in the real tank ,the "project" tank had a rubbish plastic one ..

Not bothered in the stick itself is damaged only need the top

Anyone out there got a spare one for sale

Cheers Amos

Ill post pictures if anyone's interested ?

Hi
Photos as promised . I know all you out there that want a standard SOHC will be disgusted  in me cutting up an oil can in this way ,but to be honest I bought a frame from Ebay that would have been scrapped or what ever, then I've bought all the bits to put another SOHC on the road all be it in a stripped down CafeRacer style, I'm sure some one will appreciate it out there .
As you can see from the photos I've had a scrap oil tank (badly repaired by someone a monkey must have welded it !!!)turned it around and then cut the "front" off so it butts up to the battery holder thus covering the electrics (well I have to totally rewire it yet!) hopefully if some one has an alloy dipstick I will be drilling a hole in the top and making it match the other real side.

started looking at sorting the wiring today,I had a loom from another bike which didnt seem to match any wiring colour I had on my other parts ! so it was back to the manual and a multi meter ! iva attached some photos so you can all see how im doing .
one question though don't seen to have the head lamp wiring with the loom I have does it come with the light/indicator switch which I have ordered.

Hi Amos its been a long time since i was in the headlight messing with the wiring but if your bike was/is a f1 it had the junction box on the left hand down tube and if i remember right the wiring from the switches and horn went in there, but you still have achunk of wires going into the headlight,  ;) cheers Mick.

Hi Amos,

Can confirm there are quite a lot of wires in the headlight, even taping them neatly(ish) to the shell I still had difficulty fitting the light! If you get in any difficulties I can check and / or photo the wiring on my bike if it helps. ( mine is totally standard )

cheers
