CB750 / Big end bearing - metal selection table
« on: April 23, 2017, 05:12:52 PM »
I've never really noticed before because I always measure my crank pins and never use standard rods but,
In the table the marking is shown as 1-2-3 but in the list downwards showing the oil clearance and shell colour the pins are 3-4-5.
Am I missing something?

I have sorted the problem, I fitted the mains as per the stamping on the top case and fitted the crank.
I then bolted in one bottom case and then the other, one turned and one didn't, problem solved. ;D 8)

Thanks for the reply trigger.
I've just been down to the garage and none of my cases have any numbers on the back end.
Honda are obviously out to confuse me.

HELP
I have a lot of old spares and decided that over the holiday I would sort them out.
I have a couple of sets of cases and don't know if they are matched pairs, how can I tell? :-[ :-[ :-[

CB750 / Re: Which Engine Oil should I use ?

You need to be a bit careful if you are going to run an engine with more power than standard.
Modern engine oils have friction modifiers to enable the vehicles to have better fuel consumption. If you use these oils you can have problems with clutch slip. If you run a standard engine and you drive sensibly you probably wont have any trouble.
I race a sidecar with an 836cc engine and I'm building a 1000cc engine for next season, I use Millars 20w50 motorcycle oil. The engine oils specified for motorcycles don't have friction modifiers so eliminate the clutch slip problem.
