Well, after my stroke last June I've finally started driving again last Friday, all a bit weird at first after just over a year of not driving. Still haven't got my licence back from the DVLA yet but they said I could drive on a Section 88 with my GP's approval while my reapplication is being processed - they're currently up to 8 weeks behind.
But it will be a little while longer before I start riding again as I promised my wife I wouldn't jump straight back on a bike, so hopefully I'll be back behind bars soon and my riding days are not behind me - time will tell.........

Great news Andrew........really pleased for you.
Just take things easy....as I know you will.......the bikes will still be there waiting till you are ready......and hopefully that won't be too far away.
Best regards,
Alan.

Great news 👍

Great news Andrew .. wise to listen to your missus as well and only start riding again once you have her blessing and you feel the time is right.

All the best mate, take care and ease yourself back in.

Great news Andrew. 👍
Pleased to hear that you are back on the road again.
+1 for taking it easy and not rushing into getting back on the bikes until you feel good and ready.

Thanks all,
Yes, I am gradually easing myself back into driving, I've waited long enough and don't want to lose the privilege again. Riding can wait a while until I'm ready, there's no rush.
Cheers,
Andrew

Now is a good time to get driving again as the roads are relatively quiet

Well done Andrew, great news.
Just driving isn't so bad when you have a TR Triumph to drive👍.

Thanks, you prompted me to call the DVLA Drivers Medical Group again this morning - they advised me they are currently processing applications received on 2 May, mine was received on 19 May (signed proof of delivery) and reiterated that although I do not need a DVLA letter confirming I am driving under Section 88 and they do not automatically send one out they have, on my request, marked my medical case file to send me one as soon as my application case reference appears on their system.
I have rightly gone down the 'belt and braces' route and have a GP letter confirming I meet the appropriate S88 criteria and there is no medical reason to prevent me from driving; both Admiral and Footman James accepted this and have added me back on my policies as a named driver. The DVLA previously advised a GP letter is not essential or required by them and it is up to me in consultation with my GP whether I feel confident and capable to drive.
For those in a similar situation, here's a link to Section 88 - the appropriate criteria for me is on pages 2,3 and the top heading (voluntary surrender) on page 5, see: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/695575/inf188x6-can-i-drive-while-my-application-is-with-dvla.pdf (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/695575/inf188x6-can-i-drive-while-my-application-is-with-dvla.pdf)
Cheers,

Nice to see you are well on top of the system Andrew, as you know i drive trucks and now need a medical every year and DVLA use section 88 when running slowly(normal). My employers have a notice up telling us to get a letter, maybe they have had problems before, with 500+units on the road it could just be belt and braces.
