Hello again,
I have successfully used PU windscreen fitting adhesive on a supercharger inlet system which was leaking - as a temporary measure until the correct seals arrived.  They had a habit of being sucked in slightly and caused 'limp home' problems.  You need to be scrupulously clean before application to be sure of a good result but it certainly worked, especially in your case if they are made from unobtainium.

On one of Allen Millyard’s videos on YouTube, he put carb bodies in a bucket of water mixed with alloy wheel cleaner.

Left them in for a few minutes until the water stopped fizzing and they came out pretty good.

Hope it's not the alloy wheel cleaner that used hydrofluoric acid ... really nasty stuff that. I have 5l of it that somebody gave me  but always chicken out of using it.

Bearing clearance update 2.

From the generator side first:

brown 0.025mm green 0.038mm green 0.025mm green 0.050mm green 0.050mm
                                                                        brown 0.025mm

I put the brown in one of the green that measured at 0.050mm and it went down to 0.025mm. I'll remeasure the one that gave a reading of 0.038mm.

I think the best thing to do would be to go BROWN GREEN GREEN BROWN BROWN.

Then as other people have said, run it in carefully.

Welcome to the forum Harriec.

Nice bike the F2  and sounds at least like you're making a little progress.

Echoing not stripping the carbs initially, especially if the rubber intake are suspect and need to be competent to give sensible evaluation.

The rubbers to head are unique to this installation F2 / K7 as far as I'm aware, and maybe difficult in supply. If that's the case there maybe a temporary way around to get up and running if you need that.

Initially though, non leaking and fully warmed assessment should allow you to then plan which way you need to react.

I actually just tried as Orcade-Ian suggested. Sprayed some easy start down stream of the carbs and it did raise the revs quite dramatically. So I'm going to take the carb off and check the rubbers etc. It could be sucking in air? Worth half an hour's work of checking!

They are the cross drilled open ended ones. All mixture screws were just one turn out and the slide needles are all set to the second position from the needle tip. Needles seem high and mixture screw seems less screwed out that usual - the 2 balance each other out?

Hello Mike, your bike probably is a CB550K2. The old style carbs on this model are relatively easy to clean. I've never needed an ultrasonic bath for my carbs, but my CB500 never sits for longer than 6 months and I take some precautions. Your carbs - probably numbered 087A - can be cleaned manually. Although ultrasonic is an option, there is a risk you will loose a tiny plastic part (#1 carb) in the process. I will try to find the link.
The brassware in these oldstyle hardly wears. My parts have been in there for over 140.000 km and there's still no indication of wear.
Tip: before you remove the airscrews (in the side of the carbs) turn them fully in (gently!), counting the turns. Write down the position (turns) they were in, for future reference. I'd like to know whether yours has the solid pointed airscrews or the cross drilled open ended ones.
You can find a lot of information concerning your model in the parts list here: https://www.honda4fun.com/dwnload/Part-List/CB550/CB550-K0-K1-K2-Parts-List.pdf

Thanks for all the great info and suggestions. Most of the small brass components are now looking pretty spruce and the little spring bit in all the needles is free (much soaking).

Im left with some corrosion and pitting on the outside walls of a couple of the emulsifier tubes although the pinholes look clean and uncorroded - I am assuming this OK?

Im going to make some replacement gaskets for the top cover above the slide arms using Flexiod from Amazon. It comes in a number of thicknesses. Can anyone tell me what thickness and if Flexoid is a poor choice, please shout out. Thanks, Mike

The F2 has 2 BIG carb problems
1 they are pd carbs and a swine to clean
2 they have an accelerator pump which frequently fails with standing.

They do not like standing for 4 weeks or more without being run.

In Ash's dropbox should be the complete K7/F2 Honda manual, the carb bit pictures are not the best but better than other manuals, the pilot jets are pressed in but can be removed with care and do need to come out to clean and clean the passages.
DO NOT attempt to strip the carbs off the rack unless you are a watch/clockmaker as there are gazillions of tiny bits that have to go back exactly right , find somebody with an ultrasonic that will hold the complete bank.
Finally DO NOT buy aftermarket rebuild kits the quality of the brass is crap

Thanks Athame57 new petcock now ordered!

I'm a bit worried about trying to sync them when I don't really know what I am doing..I am abit worried about messing with the carb settings and making it worse! However it may come to that. I would really like to enjoy the bike this summer. Its my only bike as we can't afford a modern too and I miss getting out over the south downs at the moment.
