Misc / Open / Re: Agreed Value insurance
« on: October 05, 2020, 05:31:28 PM »
So today was the start of my annual insurance telephone challange.
I received my insurance renewal quote from Carole Nash this morning and due at the end of October.  As usual the price has gone up, this year by a staggering 21.6%, or put another way, an increase of £126.70 on my policy :o
Normally I start the merry-go-round of getting alternative quotes resulting in hours on the phone to various alternative insurance companies. When I receive a cheaper quote from someone else I go back to Carole Nash to advise I'll be leaving them. This is when the fun begins; CN will then beat the cheaper quote by a big margin and I stay another year, this was my 29th year with them, that's how good their quotes have been in the past. This annual song and dance goes on every single year without fail.  This year however I called CN after receiving and advised unless they give me a best, new policy holder quote I'll leave anyway. Their new quote was £79 cheaper @£631, still not cheap enough so I’ve shopped around. Bennett’s quoted an eye watering £800 and this didn’t include my VFR, which would be subject to an additional quote :-\. Bikesure wouldn't even provide a quote and Swinton didn’t answer the phone!
I tried Peter James after reading some great reviews on here, well to say I'm shocked would be an understatement!  Peter James came in at £369, unbelievable! The quote includes unlimited mileage, breakdown and recovery, full Europe cover, helmet and leather cover up to £750, personal injury and only a £50 excess on each bike. They were unbelievably helpful and it only took 12 minutes on the phone from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone who is about to renew their insurance.
Oh, and when asked by PJ how I heard about them I of course said via the Honda SOHC Forum. Who knows, they may become a site sponsor if enough of us take out insurance with them ;D.

How many bikes did you insure for the £369?

Great job, did you use a siver base coat or just a grey primer.

Julie it might be a good idea to try fitting them on the bike first to see that they are a reasonable fit, i say this from experience as the set i had last year from David Silver would not fit at all, sent them back for another set, and guess what...they also didn't fit, turns out that Silvers entire stock were faulty, they returned my payment, so i ordered a set from CMS, i believe they use the same supplier as David Silver, but they did fit.

P.S If your bike is not assembled then maybe try them on Triggers K6, i'm sure he wouldn't mind ::)

Okay I will own up after a couple of NSU Quickly's I went to the Dark Side having owned a raft of "Scooters" this is the list I may have missed a couple out.
1) Capri 70.
2) Capri 80.
3) Viscount Prior 200 (Electric Start)
4) Maico Letta 250 electric start, floor gear change etc it was an A plate from 1963 I think. Can't post a photo of the Maico as we lost most of our pre-digital photos  when we had a serious house fir caused by a neighbours firework.

When I sold the Maico Letta in 1965 I bought my first propper 2 wheeler - A Triumph 21 "102 ETF" then I was hooked on motor cycles.

Wow a Maicoletta, i used to lust after them, still do, the superbike of the scooter world.

I had a Raleigh Runabout - they were faster...

... except when it rained and the belt drive slipped.
Show off ::) yes mine slipped in the wet too, i think the Raleigh was based on the Mobylette.

Welcome to the forum, lots of knowledge here. Looks like we have followed similar paths in motorcycle life, in 1964 at the age of 16 my first transport was a 1950's Mobylette, which involved pedaling uphill, followed by a unreliable Tiger Sports Cub then a Honda CB72, and a variety British and Japanese bikes

What (or who) is Kidwelly Motorcycles?

I googled it before approving your registration but couldn’t find anything.

I live ten miles from Kidwelly and can say with some certainty that there is no "Kidwelly Motorcycles",  unless someone is repairing motorcycles from their garden shed. Kidwelly is little more than large village with a castle and a cafe.

Bikesure for me,  as they have been the cheapest for the past three years, haven't made a claim so i don't know what they are like to deal with, with a bit of luck i won't have too.

Very interesting overview to consider

http://nonlintec.com/sprite/cap_failure/

It's not unusual it appears that condenser quality is an issue for others too.

Interesting that the physical construction in his view is not particularly tolerant to vibrations,  and possibly the differential between originally supplied Honda components.

It looks like much of currently available components are just not matching OE fit regardless of how much they cost.

That is a very interesting article, i now know what is going on inside a condenser and why they fail. We are at the mercy of cheap shoddy goods, probably made in China regardless of what it says on the box.

Great, thanks but how do they fit, is it a straight swop ?
