Title: Delkevic exhaust system
Post by: bobv7 on December 15, 2019, 11:22:26 PM
A quick couple of questions for any of the learned members who have fitted this system.

1.Did you need to alter the carb settings?

2. Was it a good fit?

3. Did you find the noise level acceptable?

Thanks for your input.

Fitted a delkevic to my 750.... fit was good, quality is excellent, sound is fantastic.. no changes to the jetting required, this info should be on their website.

They are a lot louder than the standard Honda or Motad exhaust at 105db  ;)

Fitted one to my 750 earlier in year agree with all Rob62 says also agree with Trigger noisier than original but not too noisy

Thanks for all the replies. My main concern is how loud the pipes are because back in the day I had a Piper system fitted to the 400/4; great for a short time but literally a headache on a long run! I suppose it might be possible to fit another silencer to the Delkevic header pipes?

I wouldn't worry about it, the noise is a safety feature, at least people can't say I didn't see you or hear you ☺️. I have a n original 1970's Yoshimura system fitted to one of my old Honda fours, with no silencer and a baffle no bigger than a tea bag, sounds fantastic but the noise does do your head in a bit if riding for hours on a motorway but other than that, it's bloody great.

I've got the Delkevic on my 550.  The plus points are:

Its well made
It come with all the parts you need to fit including exhaust sealing paste
It looks good IMO
Its very good value for money.

Bad point

It is loud.

When I was in my teens or 20's I'd have loved it just for that reason, but I'd be happier if they did a more efficient removable baffle.

I've written elsewhere here I'd love a full original Sankel system for my bike, there have been a couple come up recently on ebay but at North of £600 I'll stick with the Delkevic.  I can buy two complete systems for £600.

Hmm.. My own feelings on the sound are that a 4 into 1 always sounds much better than the 4 into 4 which in my opinion can sound almost like the bike is misfiring... but that's just personal choice.

Surprised to read some of the comments regarding noise levels. I don't find the Delkevic to be excessively noisy at all. I would say it is quite moderate and if you were expecting lots of noise you may well be disappointed... Of course there is the option to remove the baffle which does make it a bit louder. Mine is the short pipe version which I would expect to be the noisier of the two options....

The problem with noise is it's like music, you can either love a tune or hate it. For me it has more to do with tone rather than loudness so it sort of makes it hard tell if it's acceptable until you can actually hear it for real. A local lad has a stainless steel exhaust system fitted to his BMW car and I can only assume it was rather cheap because that's exactly what it sounds like. No doubt to him inside his insulated box it sounds great but I find it generates an unpleasant, raspy frequency. Makes decisions just that bit harder when it come to making a choice, not that there is much choice available!

The quieter the better IMO. I can be really impressed by a quiet exhaust, never by a loud one. On some modern Yamaha or multicylinder BMWs an exciting air intake sound can be heard due to a very quiet exhaust. That's class. I love that. 4-4 also is not bad, although I hate that stupid revving in:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4GYMDP7Jtk

Now if only Delkevic were able to have a pipe and muffler combination that sounds like this.... I would be very happy.

Running that sort of pipe on my 400/4 just blatting around up and down the box the sound was great, but on a motorway run of any length it became a constant drone and I would be begging for it to stop! :-[

I had a Dunstall can on my 400/4 way back in the mid 70's.  My Aunt who lived across the road from our house said she could hear me coming home late at night from my girlfriends, from miles away and she knew it was me cos of the distinctive sound.   Lol.

The OEM exhausts on the K3 models were superb IMO... very quiet.

Very good quality, fits as it should and no problems with carb settings, excellent value, looks good, it's a bit noisy I suppose but that's the only negative.

Looks good, very period.  Noise is good, it lets the tin box brigade know you are there!

Topic is old, but I've just fitted a Delkevic to my 500K1.
Arrived here in Perth from Queensland in 9 days, which was pretty good in this current climate!
I was very impressed with the packaging for starters....muffler in its own styrofoam box and all pipes, collector, ancillaries well wrapped in bubblewrap.
It almost took me as long to unwrap everything as it did to fit the system up!  (Not really)!  ;D
Quality, no-hassle fitment, good instructions.
Sound good too, a bit louder than the system I removed but not annoyingly so.
I'm a happy little Vegemite!  8) :P ;D

Unfortunately we're moving into a wet Winter so taking the bike out will be a tad problematic.  We can go out though, as Covid restrictions in WA have been relaxed somewhat.  Next week looks a bit more promising.
Stay safe everyone!  :)
