No, not a reference to a bizarre retro swimming trunk ailment!
I wondered how the trip meter knob is removed on the speedo?
Also, can the rubber cover on this be replaced without opening the clocks (assuming the rubber bit is available)?

No sorry I don’t
My one was in a real bad state so just cut it off the shaft and made a new one on the lathe as was not after an “original restoration” but something a bit different
But if you look at my picture the end has a straight knurled it my just be a press on fit but no doubt somebody will be along to confirm

The trip knob is just pressed on the shaft but very hard to budge. I managed to get mine off but it was a bit distorted in the process. It's probably easier to cut it off and replace it. Some caps on tubes of glue are almost exactly the same size and can be filled and drilled to fit.
The rubber can be replaced from the outside but easier to do if the speedo is opened.

Think I'll order a rubber cover and see if it can be wiggled over the trip knob without removing it as it sounds like it's risky removing it.
Have an old speedo to play with first so that should help.
Just a small tear in the cover but it will annoy me if I don't al least try and fix it!

Andy.... try PM’ing ‘Kent400’ wrt this. Peter restores these gauges, and in the past has described how to ‘disentangle’ the knob from the instrument.
(Alternatively trawl through Peter’s posts - there’s a lot of good stuff. Go to ‘Members’, find ‘kent400’ in the members list, followed by ‘Show posts’)
.... kinda like stalking but with an engineering twist 😂

Peter Horton did a good job on the damping in my tacho. He is the one recommended.
