Title: Honda Britain
Post by: Triumphtr6 on September 04, 2021, 08:26:18 PM
Hi all, newbie here....I've restored three honda CB500s and loved every minute of it,I've now purchased a honda CB750 K1 with a honda britain fairing(two cibies),seat, alloy tank cast alloy wheels, raask rearsets, its been bored out to 860 aswell, the frame is absolutely mint,I also have a shed full of spares for what I think is the donor bike,my question is what the best way forward?should I build a replica phil read honda britain I know that's what is was because I've scratched the black paint off in areas and it's all red or return the bike to standard, cheers Bob

I'd go for the Britain.

Speak to whiteylfc on here. He runs the UK Owners Club. http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=12990

Here are/were mine (both long gone...)

A Phil Read Replica should really be a 750F2. So yours would be a Phil Read Replica Replica.  ;D

So probably better to sell all the honda britain stuff and concentrate on restoring it to original ??

I like the look of the one in the bottom photo it oozes the period look.

That was.my initial thoughts - as K1 obviously produced several years before the F2 (ie, wouldn't demand a premium over standard refurbed k1?)

if your shed bits include the original f2 frame, that might be a viable option. but otherwise, keep your bike as is. originality isnt a big issue unless you know the bike's history and have the paperwork etc.  post some pics when you get a chance

I would so love to get my hands on a fuel tank like the Phil Read rep one in th e lower picture.

but....if one ever turned up for sale, I doubt I could afford it! By the time I had sold my kidneys, liver and both testicles to fund it....I would still be a bit short

".I would still be a bit short"

Yeh, but you wouldn't need to wear shorts, without testicles you'd be safe in a skirt  ;D
