Title: Axle Wrench
Post by: Lobo on July 15, 2022, 01:24:26 AM
Bit of a long shot, but looking for the double holed Axle wrench, found in CB450, CB500 & CB750 toolkits circa 1970. (and indeed seeking the original C spanner / point file!)/

Conditions unimportant; can supply a Hampshire postal address.

Ta.

That's a spanner I have never seen before. Fascinating. Probably not great to use but nice to have....

Correct Bryan, the UK CB750 K2 from 1972 to 1975 had 9900626000 that replaced 89202-283-000 ;)

Priced at  :o but appear to have just one https://honda4parts.nl/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=55&products_id=3705&ceid=5a59385f09648e661999923410f2ff07

A possibility.

Trig… not for my K2, but rather the Sandcast.

Cheers Nige; many such ‘adverts’ which are basically click bait. The clue is the Nil Stock, plus ‘Discontinued’. Been down this route too many times with other crap; they take your money, 3 days later tell ya, “n/a”, and then 3 weeks later finally refund the monies. (The ‘one’ you refer too is rather the number of wrenches you wish to order methinks.)
Apologies for sounding ungrateful… which I’m genuinely not, rather, I appreciate your time & efforts!

Btw… does anyone know the size of the dual sockets? I’m guessing one at 27mm; and the other???

Edit - regardless… I’ve just emailed them to be sure.

….. managed to obtain the double holed Axle Wrench, as part of a complete’ish kit - and @ great cost 🙁.

I’m still short the file, and can’t get any useful info as the Part # search produces zip. I’ll (interim) insert a modern file, can anyone advise whether the handle is flat or rod like pls? (Part #9, and a pic would be great if possible pls)

Finally the suspension adjuster - I’m told the kit I’ve bought actually has a CB550 part here… anyone able to sell me or swap the correct CB750 / CB750K1 adjuster? (Part #5)

Ta,
Simon

File had a round handle IIRC.

Very rare. Only ever seen 2 or 3.

Not 100% sure but the wrench may be a 26mm one not 27mm. One of them anyway.

Cheers Ken…. scratching my head why a file would be supplied now I think of it? Wasn’t a small bit of Emery paper part of some ‘kits wrt points cleaning?

It's for refacing the points as you suspected.

Were they a needle file from engineering shop like this

[attachimg=1]

Available from t-internet  :) https://www.shirearchery.co.uk/shop/arrow-materials/arrow-making-tools/flat-needle-file/ this one is good quality make but expensive.
If so, most engineering supplies should have stock like the above with no handle added to the basic file.

Thanks Nige, have seen similar and will order a round handle piece such as yours once I better know the file / handle lengths - which I’ll guesstimate on arrival of my ‘kit.

Bit late but if you can a flay diamond file it works better, they are out there

Cheers Bryan. Haven't bought anything yet, tho’ any file will never be used in anger; it’s only job to complete the toolset and look OEM. (Until such time I can find an original)

Sorting out the K2 toolkit - can anyone advise me what the ‘Lever’ and the ‘Bar B, Handle’ are for? The lever does not accept the screwdriver bits, and the Bar B jaws are 8mm wide fyi.

At last I have the Sandcast axle wrench in my hand; a bit of a result as it appears NOS complete with parts bag / label. The rest of the kit is fair, and the tool-bag original & immaculate which is another win. It has a 0.7mm plug feeler in the pocket which is not CB750 (CB500?) and mint. I’ve an OEM 0.5mm inlet feeler in the post, but still searching the 0.8mm exhaust part.
If anyone has this I’ll swap the (CB500?) OEM plug feeler .. or ask your price?
I thought bloody mortgages were behind me 😂. And certainly I wouldn’t want to use the axle wrench in anger.
The wrench is indeed 26mm as you thought Ken, and the smaller hole 23mm (Front axle nut?)

The lever should accept the reduced bit at top of screwdriver blades and general opinion is that wrench is a not very good spoke nipple key

Ah thanks Bryan… you’ve cleared up the lever issue as I’d inserted double-ended bits into the ‘kit, not realising the single ended bits have that additional reduced bit. Sorted now….

Wrt the Bar B, it’s nowhere near a spoke wrench as the nipples are 6mm or so, and the jaws 8mm. Unless of course I’ve some odd pattern part in the K2 kit?

Can't exactly remember but could the C spanner be for tappet adjustment.

I had a Snap On set of feeler gauges for when I was in the trade, the beauty of them was the feelers could be replaced when you either broke them or as often happened they went into a curl. I bought quite a few spare blades for when that happened and still have them. They are marked both thou and mm. They look almost the same (if not the same) as the Honda one in the kit. Can't remember exactly but is 0.8mm 3 thou? and 0.5mm 2 thou? I bought quite a few of those sizes as they were common back in the day for tappets so I've most likely still got a couple left.

Just found them and I've bought a shed load of 4 and 6 thou, probably because the 250N and 400N used that size. No 2 or 3 thou left and even my set is missing the 2 thou blade. Must fix that.

Saying that I also found a set of blades I bought off Ebay recently that has removable blades, maybe something like that would be ok for you.

Cheers Ken - appreciate this; looks hopeful.
It’s hard to find info on the blade I’ve ordered - I’m reckoning it’s the smaller size, though no real idea. Once I receive it I’ll know the remaining size to order.
And yep, you’re right with the CB750 valve settings …

Wrt the Bar B, I just can’t find anything to suggest it’s use. And what is Bar A!!! Why can’t they call it what it does? 😠

I’ve not had a ‘cap off to test your theory, but it just feels way to bulky to be getting down the rocker hole to the locknut. Maybe tomorrow….

Locknut is 10mm, Ken 40thou to the mm so 0.8 is 32thou, is it not 0.08?

Probably Bryan, I know what I meant though  ;D ;D

If you ever see Snap On vans in Oz maybe just stop and ask if he has one onboard. If not you can get them to order one.

Having a cuppa tea with Lindsay yesterday (engine builder) who too wasn’t sure what the Bar B tool is for. He identified the throttle cable adjuster barrel as the only 8mm piece on the bike, and suggested this is why Honda added those jaws to the plug socket bar. Makes sense…

Ken, found a 3” set of feelers in a local tool store so have a Pan B in place. Many thanks.

I'm off back to the states in a couple of weeks and I know the chap I see there has totes and totes of all the bits and bobs from tool kits from scrapped Honda's from the last 40 years (and teh packets and plastic covers etc.) If you are desperate, when I go i'll have a rummage if you let me know exactly what you need. If that helps let me know. He GAVE me a complete set for my 550 FOC, hes a top bloke and might be a problem solver for you at a push.
