Title: Removing engine to frame bracket
Post by: Athame57 on June 16, 2020, 03:38:31 PM
I wanted to adjust the cam chain tensioner today but found that I could not remove the brackets that are on either side of the tensioner bolts. The two forward ones weren't a problem but the large one at the engine end is inaccessible with any spanner I have due to room between bolt and engine, does this job need a special tool or something?

Normal 6 sided 3/8 drive socket should fit ok but why remove plate to adjust chain

I can't see how to access the bolt without moving the plates.

Have you got crash bars fitted?

Never removed plates in normal service operations, just used sockets and spanners

You're not trying to remove the blanking plug instead are you?

Just put 'cb400f cam blanking plug' into google images. I see the adjuster bolt  goes into a plug that goes into engine. hhmmm...mine has a hole for an allen key in it...looks like I've got another bodge to get rid of. some previous owner left me with a home made brake arm and non standard clutch cable with wrong fittings to sort out as well. .... I think I want the plates off so I can have a good look....

OK its not an adjuster bolt its a locking bolt to stop the internal adjust bar moving.
The original bolt had a 6mm thread that screwed direct into the alloy crankcase with an 8mm thread just under the head for the locking nut. I have linked to a stainless repair kit on the forum already somewhere.
