sorry for being a bit vague had another look today the small plug in item has 2 wires into it one is light blue/red stripe and is joined into the oil pressure switch wire the other is green/ red stripe and is joined into a wire that goes to the solanoid and also the clutch switch on the lever, also the solanoid had 2 heavy duty wires  connected to the regulator and battery ( i think this is the charging wire going back to the battery via the heavy duty cable) the plug in item has     s3h-02    and   + +<- -  if that makes any sense??? kind regards jonny

Hi all ive done a search and found loads of wiring diagrams but non to suit my bike, its a 400/4 but the starter solanoid isnt earthed and has 2 bullet wires and 2 on a block connector it also has a small plug in item ( only way to describe it ) that is connected to green/red and blue/red ( i think ). im doing a striped down racer and i have removed all the wires not needed so all i have left would be the starter system/regulator/fuse box the lights front and rear, brake light and feeds for the coils, i have got it so it winds over on the starter with feed going to the coils so nearly there just need to know what the plug in thing is? and the green/? bullet wire from the starter solonoid where does that go?? many thanks jonny

Cheers steve ill have a look into it, im sure all the bulbs are correct as i restored it last year and they are all new, as the flasher unit goes its the nippon denso one i belive to be original? would the fact that i got a belt off the casing be anything to do with the battery drainning? ( my other post??) as this would point me to a short? i did pull it in bits when i did the resto and it had a bit of corroding where the earth touches the casing, i cleaned that and it was fine until now, ill check all bulbs the power voltage at 3000 rpm and report back many thanks

Hi again ive just read in the haynes manual that you should "disconect the rectifier plug when charging from an external supply" i took the battery off so thats ok does this apply when using a trickle/tender charger? many thanks jonny

Thank you all for the replies im glad you all agree on the battery, i have had it on charge and will get it all back together later, with hindsight i should of started it up with the kick start as opposed to the button when not used for a while  :-\. But i will get a trickle charger and use that, once again thank you all for your wisdom regards jonny

CB350/400 / charging??? extra question
« on: April 13, 2009, 04:38:48 PM »
Hi all and a happy easter, took the 400/4 out today it wouldnt start off the button ( not been run for a while) but started on the kick, had a run out about 20 mile parked up for an hour then started on the button yippee all ok, rode home noticed the right hand indicators were a bit slow to come on gave her a rev and on they came but back to idle went off and then stalled?? went for the button NOTHING not even a click, turned the side light of still nothing started on the kick idle ok put the left indicators on they were flashing but you could here the revs die down then stall.
I started it on the kick again and put my battery/alternator tester on while idle it read 5v when i reved it read 12-13v then went back to 5v on idle, this would tell me the charging is ok??? its a newish battery ( since rebuild 12-18 month) but i dont use it as much as i like, could the battery be knackered with only going on short runs? or is there something else to try the contacts to the battery are clean and smeared with copperslip. please help regards jonny
