Title: David Silver supplied ignition coils
Post by: spiderman on March 20, 2024, 11:49:50 AM
Would anyone offer any help regarding fitting new David Silver supplied ignition coils to my cb750 k3.
I cannot marry the new coils to fit the original coil brackets. The electrical connectors at one end of the coils get in the way.

Thanks

They won't fit the original brackets. The funny tubes and bolts that came with it are a little scaffold you use instead. Alas, it doesn't come with instructions so I gave up and being a seaman I lashed the one I got with wire instead. I've since had a pair of coils compatible with original brackets but they took a bit of finding for my CB400F. I hope someone here can help you better than me.

Thanks that's great. At least I can disregard the brackets and utilize the parts that came with the coils.

The coils I bought from ebay a few years ago for my varnish blue 400/4 were too short to fit between the two original coil mounts. Rather than butcher the originals I made up two mounting blocks to fit between the original front coil mounting and the new coils. I bolted the rear of the new coils to the original coil mounts at the back and used the new spacer blocks at the front locating the fixing screw into the origianl coil mount. The extension piece of the new block allowed me to fit the front of the new coil into this. This ensured the tank would still fit over the new coils and all the original cables were still the correct length including the HT leads.

That's a very neat solution.

On my 500 I had a similar  issue with the coil feed & earth connections being too close to the frame.  I made/fitted a slotted bracket between the rear original coil bracket & the frame to raise the angle enough for the insulated contacts to clear the frame.

Might be worth looking at mounting the coils facing backwards as Oddjob has posted previously - didn't work for me with my Hedler aftermarket Coils with the offset bracket fitted to my 500.
