Title: First impressions
Post by: davefirestorm on March 23, 2019, 11:51:11 AM
Took my 750F out for a spin after fitting the new Delkevic 4-1,not as noisy as I anticipated so good news, runs ok with just few pops/bangs on over run.Carbs leak through overflow could do with clean/balance,Tyres need replacing rear brake better than I expected front brake crap as I expected all electrics work ok,24,000 miles on speedo but no idea if it’s accurite engine fasteners look original,Seat needs recovering/new trim, fuel tank needs repaint, few hours tidying up and I’ll have a nice bike for the summer.Still want a K7 so not sure if I’ll hang on to it for long

Dave - when you attach a picture, select "Inline Full-Size Image" from the drop down menu.

This is the best way of showing images - but it won't let me set as default...

Looks like a nice usable bike.

I love that colour on the F model, I bought a new boxed tank in that colour from DSS in 1987 for £28, plus £5 for matching tailpiece. Never could get the seat trim to match, so used a black one from a 750F2, looked okay. I'll NEVER understand why Honda fitted those hideous U.S. spec bars to a "Super Sport" model, just totally wrong! Have fun riding it, they are great bikes.

Dave. Did the Delkevic system all line up ok when you fitted it, or did you have to make any adjustments??

Downpipes and collector box all went straight on but when the silencer was fitted the gap between bracket and frame was around 3/4” ,overcame this by turning up a spacer on lathe. The little bracket supplied to stop centre stand hitting chain was completely useless and would never fit so again I improvised with a nylon bush not pretty lol but will do till I can make a decent one.Pleased with the quality overall considering only £310 delivered and centre stand retained and access to oil filter too.

I had the same gap issue on the Suzuki. I shortened the header pipes slightly on 1 and 2 to pull the collector box round slightly that put the silencer into the correct position. Worked well as I had to shorten a miss made pipe anyway. They are great exhausts if you don't mind a bit of manoeuvring to get them fitted right.

Wow that looks like a great bike, and the pipe suits it perfectly!

My experience fitting the delkevic was that at first I thought the tailpipe wasn’t going to fit....but if you leave the headers loose and jiggle it about a bit you can eventually work it into position....

Either way the bike looks cool 😎

Wouldn't work for me Rob, but Delkavic did offer to change it. Fits perfect on mine now, am very happy with it.

Yes I thought shortening couple down tubes slightly and bending it a bit would maybe do but making a spacer was quickest route.I love the colour too and intend getting the spare tank I have resprayed along with tailpiece plus seat recover.wouldn’t mind a Giuliari seat on it don’t know if possible to fit one to F1? I like the higher bars as it gives me a comfier riding position.Guess the F1 will grow on me lol. and maybe still get a K7 too,I plan to sell a BMW R80/7 that I find Impossible to ride comfortably.

Guess to fit a Giuliari seat I’d need to make back end same as K series if it were possible

Guiliari did do a seat for the F1. But it has a glass fibre tail piece which is very 70's.
I have had two of them in the past  & still have one in the loft.
The K model Guiliari seat can't be fitted. Due to the completely different rear fender/butty box on the F.

As I thought so back to refurbing the old seat, sourcing trim bits may be difficult?

Longer ride on it today and it goes quite well although leaks fuel from the overflow pipes. At 3900 rpm it’s doing 50 mph,is that right?

What is it about quotes that you lot just can’t handle?

Any engineers out there?

Yeh, I made a bit of a dog's dinner of that Steve.

Used the quote button on Julie's post and then deleted the text above the bit I wanted,  checked it with preview and it showed like it's now displayed,  but thought it would post correctly a bit like it doesn't show photos in preview.

Where have I gone wrong  :)

The trick is to watch the contents of the square brackets.
I’ll use () here or the system will display as a quote …

(QUOTE) starts the quote
(/QUOTE) ends the quote

Anything different is what we (in the trade) would call a syntax error.

If you delete the end quote, it takes everything you write and includes it in the quote box.

If you delete the start quote it just puts everything you write in as text.

Here endeth the coding lesson.

Think I got it.

Edited original so it now displays as quote. :D

I worked more in algorithms,  some hexadecimal editing amongst other stuff in obscure systems.  So a bit unfamiliar with this.

It’s called Bulletin Board Code (BBC) and it’s like a cut down version of html (the language that most websites are based upon)

Anoraks can look it up and see what else you can do.

You have to use square brackets in BBC James.

Unstructured lists work well.

Re the leaking carb, it's not always float adjustment or a suspect valve......when you have the float bowl off, take a very careful look at the thin brass overflow pipe, they have a habit of splitting along their length, it can be quite hard to see......it took me a while to find it on my K0, but when it happened to another carb it was the same thing.

Clean it up with a fibreglass brush or similar and a tiny amount of solder, just enough to fill the crack will fix it......(low temp modelling solder was very easy to use) ......permanently thus far, and mine was repaired about four or five years ago....check the overflow is still clear and you're good to go.

No idea if the F1 has clip on float bowls, but if so, it beats taking the carbs off......

Mick.

The same can happen with the brass tube that goes up into the tank from the petrol tap for some reason.

Float bowls on my F has clip on bowls,on investigation I’ve found the petrol tank seems to have been messed around with regarding where the fuel tap screws on the base. There is a right hand threaded boss with a nut right hand thread one end and left hand thread the other end and the tap is left hand thread think they’re 18mm threads [attachimg=2]

I swopped the petrol; tank on my 76 F1 for an F2 tank, the taps are different sizes, the F1 tap is on the left, F2 on the right.

Also if the tank has been corroded watch out for the filters that are just under the float vale in the carb as mine were plugged up, see below.

Tap is on left on both tanks I have. The tap in use at moment has the left hand male thread on it but the male thread on the tank is right hand threaded, anybody confirm this is correct/incorrect.Seem to have cured my fuel leak by stripping/cleaning the tap and putting correct size hose on the previous owner had fitted hose too large inner diameter and fuel leaked from joints, hopefully the leak from overflows has gone after a good longish run.

Post by: hairygit on March 31, 2019, 09:09:43 PM
If the tap is an F1 item, that is correct. The theory being the top half of the nut is right hand thread, the bottom half that attaches to the tap is left hand thread, that way the tap contacts the tank join far faster.

Thanks for that.Won’t be bunging an F1 tap on the “new” tank then as it has a righ5 hand 16 mm thread on it,new Superdream one it will be then.
