£270 a joke, but frustrating that it has the side panel that I need.

actually might be worth buying for a full restoration or cafe racer and i have just sold my goldwing and have money in my pocket......
seriously though i seem to have been priced out of most sohc bikes, this last couple of years has seen prices for restoration projects go through the roof.

At £270 there's money to be made in breaking it. The engine castings alone are worth that.

You'll be buying a whole lot of aggravation,  there's probably not one single bolt that's going to undo, and you'll be swearing at it and asking why I bought this heap of rust and wishing you'd listened to Mike, Brian and everyone else.

Don't worry Mike I won't be buying it. Got enough scrap metal to be going on with.

At 270, I would place that in my garden erectly behind the fence to my neighbor

I have bought things not far behind that in condition. Would be tempted if it were closer and if I had time. A few years ago that would have been a wildly overpriced bike but prices do seem to be going silly. Unfortunately the same is true of both parts and bikes of the Sohc fraternity.

I agree about the parts prices, but Honda's are still good value for money. I am rebuilding a Suzuki GS1000 at present and the parts prices for that are off the scale. Plus having done a Z900 in the past, they are now beyond economic rebuilding even though they sell for over 10k. Just hope the Honda parts prices don't go the same way.

Looks like an old Yoshimura UK pipe on it as well, what's left of it. Could be used as a pattern to reproduce. The downpipes were arranged to go past the oil filter so you didn't need to take the pipe off for filter changing, made a nice shape esthetically speaking.

please don't say that, I threw away a siezed rusty 500/4 engine last year that was wasting space in my workshop.  I thought it was scrap.

i think i need to check my scrap pile more carefully.

Hmm last set of cases I sold for a 550 went for £5, another for 99p and 400/4 cases again got about 99p. Waste of my time listing them. I have several other sets in the loft. Might be time to clear the stuff out. I am planning on clearing my bmw aircooled boxer stuff out as it cost double what a Sohc Honda did to run for a year. The Hondas were in my expirience the more reliable machines. The right switchgear on Bmws kept going wrong despite the mass of relays meant to protect them. The relays also gave trouble, and the gearboxes. I think costs wise the Hondas have caught up in cost of parts with Bmws. I Don't think that bike would be worth it in parts once you cost in time to grt it all appart and clean enough to inspect. Its value is more in its identity and relative completeness if restoring. Ok a few tinware bits are scrap, but since a dlightly dog eared looking example being restored would inevitably need those parts buying for it anyway, you only loose the value of the bits you might otherwise ebay in rough condition. Or it could be rat biked by someone like me with a can of Matt black.

Well it went for £350, seems cheap compared to this turd.   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-500Four/292268139504?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D47510%26meid%3D55f4b1923aa5410ebcdd0bfac599bfdf%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D263223319857&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

i went to look at that (the original poor old girl not the turd) as it was only a few miles away..it was very very crusty.
alot to restore but you would make your money back plus some if you could be arsed..
the tank was clean as a whistle inside..due to having half a tank of old 4star still init...so it wasnt to screwed there was abit of rust where the water had sat in the chrome trim...
it does also still show on the dvla site so v5 would be easy to get back...
plenty of bits to sell on but plenty to bin too...
