If my CB400/4 needed a new exhaust system and if I thought the rest of the bike was in such exceptional standard condition (which it's not), I would by them at that price. Luckily my original double skinned downpipes are still in very good nick and I have a Brituro silencer fitted and these  will see me out. But, I have paid more than that for Handbags in the past, so I have lost the plot anyway  ;D ;D ;D

Everything has a price Ash, so if someone wants it badly enough, I'll guess it'll sell - let's face it the 400 exhaust has a notoriety for being sought after and 'worth' money !

I'm sure that we all keep an eye on ebay and the like and see the high prices being asked for parts and bikes in often questionable condition and get caught up in the 'well if they think that's worth X, then mine must be worth more as it's is in better condition'  The truth of it is simple and been mentioned many times on here and in other circles, that it's worth what someone is prepared to pay - the availabililty of pattern parts does not seem to reduce and maybe even enhances the percieved value of genuine OEM.

Whilst on the topic of 400 exhausts, how do you identify if the exhaust is double skinned - is it the spot welds ?

Shoes - on the other hand (foot) are her Husbands domain as he buys her the Jimmy Choo (real) stuff.........I don't think he's realised yet that most Girls have one Birthday each year but my Daughter somehow manages to have two (sometimes three) most years !

Unfortunately Alan I never got into buying fakes but like you say, hard to tell the difference really. Only I know that the bags I have are 'real' .........oh and the bank manager !!!!

Yes..spot welds x 3 on originals but not so sure that 500/4 pipes made by DS/CMS  may have a different arrangement but still double skinned. So why the hell are there no double skinned 400/4 ones (of course I may be out of touch and they are available now ... but Yamiya still showing 'single skin' when I checked this morning).

Right from the very first time i see one of these bikes as teen i thought these silencers looked like an after thought, so me parting with 2k for one of these is never going to happen ever, aside from that just pure greed.

Problem is all repros I have seen have  single skinned down-pipes Uli...including the ones Yamiya sells.

Just to ask where about is the 3 spot welds so I can tell the difference in a picture.

Someone should tell Honda that there is a far easier profit to be made selling parts for their ‘heritage ‘ legacy, than all the jet skis, cars, snowmobiles whatever, which all need marketing budgets salesmen etc, while our stuff sells itself. Make new genuine exhausts  and the world will beat a path to your door.

Thinking about it, my total spend with Honda itself over recent years, zero, total spend with D Silver, EBay etc on NOS, thousands. This is why Sochiro Honda vowed to keep making spares forever, but they ignored that before his body was cold.

Other manufacturers are smarter.

Looking at your vehicles, Porsche asks about 15 tsd. Euro for a targa roof e.g. for my 84 3.2 Carrera

There was a lengthy discussion about this exhaust sale on Facebook VJMC site .. the usual squabbling & idiot comments plus a few that were of merit. The whole thread was then pulled for some reason and dissapeared.. a bit of a shame as at least  two members came out of the woodwork and said they had NOS 400/4 systems stashed away and were willing to sell.

Our old mucker 'Bikepusher' commented on there that when Honda stopped making 400/4 exhausts, Sankei continued to supply David Silver directly but left the HONDA stamping  on the silencers. Honda then moved in and threatened him with legal action. Not sure if this is true or not but that's what pees me off about Honda ..they don't want to support us with remaking deleted parts but prevent other people from doing so if they can. Yamiya must have a special relationship though ...they have been selling repro 750K0 seats for yonks and they have always sported the HONDA logo.

The eBay one is still available I see,  so maybe £2k is more than anyone on the planet is willing to pay.

I've just seen your post Uli, an early CB750 and a 3.2 Carrera (even if yours doesn't have a proper roof) obviously a man of taste.

Porsche have become switched on to their 'legacy' market of classics, and regularly remake parts which have become unobtainable over the years. They also signed me up for their Classic Register, sent me some free stuff and a newsletter, and offered to clean and valet my car 4 times a year at their dealership, free. They know there is money to be made from classic owners, unlike Honda.

What is the overall quality of the CMS (NL) systems ? Any experience with them ?

I think David Silver, CMS & Yamiya all the same Jensen...single skinned headers  :(
 :(
I evaluated some from CMS  ..they didn't fit without a struggle.

Please see this thread.

I bought a nice aftermarket set, probably italian, it has the double skinned headers, nice exhaust damper and all the clamps. Coparing with a NOS original set, it's heavier, and has nicer chrome...

OK, new CB400 downpipes are expensive.

What about those for CB550 or CB750 F1 and F2?
