I have seen some comments on the forum that some of the information in the 500/4 manual is incorrect. Does this apply to both Haynes and Clymer or just one and which would you recommend?

They are both as bad as each other with glaring errors in both. But, they are both OK as a general guide, sort of, just don't take what they say as gospel.

I have a haynes and its ok but the photo’s are all too dark and difficult to make out. But the Honda shop manual, downloadable on here, is very good..

Even the genuine honda one has errors plus the haynes and clymer are both partial rip offs from the honda

I find reading the Honda, Haynes, clymer and Pittman manuals each give differing advice as do the articles in the Brooklands gold portfolio and personally I find each has it's strengths and weaknesses depending on the job I am doing. For setting points I actually favour an article by Rod Gibson in one of my old bike magazines, I just find following these instructions easier. Part of that is if the instructions rely on you having kit you either do not have or that's not easy to get to in the lock up at the time. One thing without doubt is that if things are not seeming straightforward the stopping to read how it's done is better than getting out a hammer to fix it, then buying new bits, or doing the job twice.

Now we're on it, also the Honda Shop Manual has some errors. The other day this question emerged on the German: is the 49 mm in the chapter Carburetor Adjustment right or should it be 40 or even 39? It's on p. 8. As many manuals online seem to miss this page, I add it below.
