CB350/400 / Re: Rear rack/carrier for a CB350F
« on: September 14, 2015, 05:42:06 PM »
I thought I'd report back on this topic.

With no other option appearing I decided to go for the Universal Rack sold by a couple of ebay dealers.

It cost £46 including carriage and arrived well wrapped and packaged.

It consisted of a pair of twin tube side rails and a separate rack section finished in matt black paint or powder. I can't tell which.

When I removed the grab rail and offered it up to the bike I was pleasantly surprised as it fitted better than I could possibly have hoped for.

All I had to do was to file a little metal from the front brackets to clear the rear dampers and make up some alloy spacers an a stainless steel drop plate.

The only modification I had to make to any of the Honda parts was to extend the indicator wires as the indicators are mounted further back now.

In fact, rather than just splice in some extra cable, I stripped the indicators down and replaced the original wire with a new longer piece. While I was in there I also fitted a proper earth wire too. Honda use a weird system where the grab handle is earthed by two separate wires from an earth lead in the harness under the seat. There is also an internal earth inside the indicator connecting the bulb holder to the metal body. They then rely on the securing screw on the indicator stalk to maintain continuity to the grab handle. I just ran a long wire directly from the bulb holder to the harness earth connector.

I did the same with the front indicators too as Honda originally used a similar system at the front with earthing points inside the headlamp to earth the headlamp brackets.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know.

Are the CB350F flexible brake hoses the same as the CB400F 2 line system please?

Finish Classic Liquid at 50 Celsius (that's as high as my tank will go).

I hope this thread doesn't deteriorate into a discussion of the merits of different dishwasher detergents.

I use the ultrasonic bath first then use cellulose thinners (or carb cleaner but it's more expensive) to remove any petrol residues remaining but to be honest they don't usually need further treatment.

This is a before and after of a pair of alloy throttle bodies cleaned using only dishwasher liquid in my ultrasonic cleaner.

I have never noticed any discolouration on alloy using dishwasher liquid but it may depend on the specific product used.

I use dishwasher LIQUID in mine.

It removes oil and grease along with the usual grime and it's cheap.

So what thread are they if they're not M10 x 1?

I did mine quite easily.

You certainly don't have to dismantle anything.

Just tilt  and rotate the sprung disc and feed the rubber found the perimeter.

Thank you!

As it turns out this will have to go on hold as the rubbers I bought on ebay are not the correct size even though they were specified for my bike.

Serves me right I suppose.

As it says in the title.

I am reconditioning the rear wheel, hub and brakes and I have a set of 4 new cush drive rubbers.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to remove the old rubbers without burning them out and then trying to collapse the outer sleeve without damaging the alloy surrounding them?

Can anybody tell me whether the male bake unions on the steel line connecting the lower flexible hose to the front brake caliper are the usual M10 x 1mm please?

Nice looking 350, looks like a old Police style fairing.

That's exactly what I thought too.

Anyway it's gone now and I've fitted a new chrome headlamp assembly (from Amazon would you believe) which makes the bike look so much better.

Thanks for that link.

I'll give them a ring to see if it's got a chance of fitting the 350.
