Just to be clear I have absolutely no connection to these guys other than being a previous customer of theirs. I've had a couple of gl1000 front ends and some 4 into 4 pipes from them. I've only dealt with Roger.

Only other source I know is DK spares, but you have to be very selective and ideally visit them in person to inspect the parts in detail. I visited them recently and had a good nose around out the back where all of the parts are stored. f'ing unbelievable amount of stuff there...

I think the dss reps are the same as the Daytona parts. Dss still haven't restocked the reps - they recently had three full sets of genuine Honda hm341's back in stock - they sold within 10 days (I watched closely as I wanted a set) but at 1449 + VAT I simply couldn't justify the investment. In the states a full NOS set sold for over $3500. I Agree the pricing is crazy. Also, be careful to ask the German seller in advance if he actually has stock - I asked a couple of months back and he said he had a back order of 20 confirmed customers waiting for him to restock. Clearly a case of demand outstripping supply.

Jock, there's an eBay seller called Stone Age motorcycles - worth getting in touch with them, I've bought from them in the past and the quality / service was good. I know they've just bought in a new container of stuff with some cb750 stuff. Worth a shot.

Also worth overhauling the caliper - the seals are cheap and I've found the difference between a fully rebuilt caliper and one that's sat for a while to be huge.

CB500/550 / Cb550 carb installation - advice needed« on: June 11, 2013, 11:36:53 PM »
Guys, I feel like a but of a twit asking this but I've always struggled removing / installing cb550 carbs.
The damn airbox / rubbers clearances are just so tight I always struggle. I've have a good dig around but can't really find any concrete advice on best practice. Worst part is the re-installation. I've loosened the airbox assembly to give the max amount of 'wiggle room' but I still struggle regardless. The bikes in question are both '75 cb550 k1's with the standard airbox. Any guidance / best practice advice greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere... 2366

Yeah those king and queen seats are horrible. Difficult to spot much else with the low resolution of the images.

Not sure what tools / workshop environment you have but I'd highly recommend having access to compressed air and an ultrasonic cleaner (even the cheap £30 jewellery units will suffice).
Make sure all of the jets are clean and blown through. Pay particular attention to the pilot jets - hold them up to the light when you think they're clean - you should be able to see light through the tiny orifice. Check that the emulsion tubes are clean and clear. Blow through the main jets. Blow through all fuel / air paths in the carb bodies. Check the pilot screws are clean and springs are good. Make sure the Float bowl drain screws drilling a are clear and blow through the overflow pipe. Take your time, be methodical and you'll be fine... Just my 2 penneth.... 2368

I suspect this could be the ethanol in modern Petrol.
I had a similar issue with the stock fuel Line supplied in the seeley remote fuel reservoir kit (had to replace it with new braided fuel line from a local factor). Luckily I caught it in time. 2369

Yeah is pretty special Pete. Probably the cleanest unrestored 70's Honda I've been lucky enough to own. Had a small bikini fairing on from new, so front indicators were relocated to the headlamp m10 x 25 screw position - so I'll need to sort that as well.
Freshly rebuilt carbs ready to go on - can't wait. I've been looking for one this clean for a long long time. |
