I know DSS buys most of his stock from dealers getting rid of their old or slow moving stock (or he used to, I guess the retro market has picked up a lot since the 80's & 90's and the stock is now in demand by people like us). Where did DSS buy his initial stock from to get started, was it Honda UK although Nigel's post would make that seem impossible if Honda themselves sent it to landfill?

I wondered if that was a bit subtle in humour Ash.

Decals etc, I know from a friend working on land fill site in 1980s that a lot of stock, including many of these decals, went to that operation as they cleared warehouse excess from central distribution.  A man from Honda accompanied the skip to ensure content was buried, only for site "totter" to pull all the metal out again afterwards  :) all sort of casting, tanks, and general components in there regularly.
But those dumped parts would have originally all had Honda part numbers I guess Nigel. I  have never seen a Honda parts book with those tank decals in..but the part number given to me by a dealer meant I could call all of the big Honda dealers to find some ...and it was deffo the standard Honda part number format. I guess Honda must have been pressurised to provide them for customers who didnt want to buy a new tank.

Engine looks good, it'll be interesting to hear how it eventually runs.

Are you going to run it on dyno to setup  ? As torque and power charts will be good to see.

They do have a distinct sound to them, these 750 motor in mechanical terms.  A big bore race one was started and run a while back at DS open day that sounded potent. Can't remember what he said as output though.

Was a CR present but they couldn't start it, ignition pack fault as I recall.

Welcome Phil, when you can be good to see a photo of your 650.
There is a qualifying period before you can post pics.

Project Board / Re: The rebirth of Lazarus

Lazarus continues to frustrate me and resist his rebirth.started running on 3 cyls, and after swapping plugs etc with no effect I decided it must be a blockage in no 2 carb. So carbs off again and pilot jet had a blockage, then after cleaning carbs back on. Now running on two cyls! Turns out the low tension wire has broken off the coil. A member of our fine forum Simon has offered to do the Ash fix on some spare coils for me so hope to be back running soon.

Anorak's Corner / Re: Anatomy of a 400/4 Horn (also CB250/360 G5)
« Last post by AshimotoK0 on May 28, 2024, 11:17:44 PM »
Update on this.

I found a couple of Honda CB400F style Genuine horns in my stash  the other day that were totally dead. My rig to inject EHT to arc across the contacts in order to revive them....  as described on here previously ...  was at work. So I tried removing the M4 adjuster screw/lock-nut completely and with 12v connected across the terminals I repeatedly pushed down inside the hole with a thin crosshead screwdriver to physically move the contacts apart and together again. After quite a few makes and breaks there was eventually a bit of a squeak and the horn started to conduct current, so I carried on making and breaking the contacts and the current gradually increased until the horn worked perfectly, after adjusting the large centre screw and the M4 'tuning' screw. Worked on both horns eventually and worth a try if you have dead horns.

Hi Phil, welcome aboard! Not so many 650’s that I’m aware of plenty of 400, 500, 550’s. All nice machines of course.
