Title: Bike running! A good start..!
Post by: Integra99 on December 18, 2017, 10:20:59 AM

Well I'm still along way from heading off into the sunset but we have a running bike finally!

Plumbed in some fuel , and wired up the new coils, a few final checks and she fired up, started on two, then 3 and then that gorgeous 4 sound as all came on song! My new gauges working well and oil light went out so seems good.

idled fine and revved well.. sounds clean and crisp with the Delkevic.. didnt run her long as only had a little fuel in the tank but all good. The top end does have a bit of a metallic rattle at idle, but smooth when opened up. I wonder if this is the cam chain? Carbs are only bench tested so lots to do.

Only other issue was a small fuel leaked which I hope I've fixed but it damaged a little bit of paint.. it can be sorted!

Either way a running bike after a year..and electronics holding up, I need to see if we are getting charge so will test this evening... as I've messed around alot and have an aftermarket combo rectifer in place.. :-\

It's always a good feeling when you get progression in building something, hope the voltages check out on the new kit.

great,it always feels good when a rebuilt motor fires into life,

just let  it run  a bit then go cold and you can check the tappets and camchain,

basic way to check charging, does the neutral light get brighter if you rev it gently?
it should ,and at around 2,000 rpm that should be as bright as it gets.

Thanks guys..  I'll try and get some footage of the Delkevic this evening.. she needs a bit more running so will let her run for 10 mins this evening and check all electrics out, charging system and the tappets.

I plan to fit the DYNA electronic ignition so I now know she runs on points ok I will swap over Christmas.

I'll then do a oil change and we can continue with the build..  as there is still so much to do!

There's nothing like the sound of a newly built engine coming back to life.   Well done.

Well engine ran well.. clearly some rattling in the head but bottom end sounded sweet.. no more fuel leaks either.

So at the weekend will make adjustments.

Main problem is I don't seem to be making any volts so I need to now go though all the neatly packed wires and see whats at fault.

Also my indicators are not working, I think this is down to the fact I had an LED type relay.. rather than a standard bulb type.. In my haste and indicators that are double earthed I may have blown my 12v relay as no blinking noise just a very fast indicator!!
