Title: Bomber on eBay
Post by: royhall on December 29, 2017, 10:48:21 AM
Just spotted this on FleaBay. This one's top money but not really sure if it's a top job, although it does look to be fairly complete and nice. Love the liberal use of big ugly jubilee clips, Yuk. ;D     https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB450-K0-BLACK-BOMBER/282788078092?hash=item41d77ba20c:g:cKEAAOSwFb5aRN9C (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB450-K0-BLACK-BOMBER/282788078092?hash=item41d77ba20c:g:cKEAAOSwFb5aRN9C)

Methinks that may have been James May's bike at one time Roy. He described it as 'troublesome'  ;)

Note it's got the very early black knob side panel retainers ...not the chromed fixings.

JamesH on here  and myself know a guy who just bought a lovely CL125 sloper twin from them . I think there is some kind of link with DS and they are very close geographically to him.

I found James May's old one on a Bonhams catalogue  ;)

Eithe May or Bonhams are too OCD for Jubilee clips.

I would say there was no way these are the same bikes. Who would take nicely polished cases and paint them? Plus there's a whole load of differences between the two.

That went through my hands in 2005  ;)

They are not the same bike one is a '67 with flip-front seat, chrome side cover fasteners etc. He maybe had probs as described with the 66 and got a 67 via DS not sure.

Here he is one the eBay bike (note black fastener on cover and UK guard) It was owned by a VJMC member from Ipswich before DS got it.

Hard to see in that picture Ash. but are those the same B&Q hose clips he's trying to hide with his leg?

I know diddly squat about these Bombers but the one on eBay has got a different tank on it, no seam down the middle, the one James May is on has the seam on the tank and the eBay one has also got one of those strange seat logo's supplied by the chap in Canada IIRC. What is it about these bikes, are they so very rare and has James May owned all of them?
Edit, I think I can see a ridge on the one on eBay...

I think that you will find that the seller of this 450 carries out work on DS imported bikes when a customer wants them "on the road".

Nice people - I've visited a couple of times and they seem very genuine.

Just to add more confusion ..totally different James May auctioned CB450K0 (E reg not D reg)

I think the shot of the flip front seat one was a library shot from another auction in 2009:

Maybe, like all racing Suzukis are ex Barry Sheene and have a number seven on them.

How about this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRIXTON-HONDA-500-race-bike-classic-race-bike-swap-px/322974069757

I want it for no logical reason I can think of, but that exhaust is a thing of beauty. I used to race in that class, the 500T was eligible. I never saw a quick one, but there were only a couple about.

Very nice. If its a real Drixton (as opposed to just Drixton parts) it will be bloody quick.

I used to have one of those when I was at school. An ugly little thing, but it introduced me to Honda reliability - while my BSA Bantam was forever finding new ways to go wrong, that Honda only ever needed air in the tyres and petrol in the tank.

If anyone is thinking of buying this bike it's only 20 miles away from me. I would be happy to go and look at it for you and report back.
